Default Technical question on cassette adapters

I am curious if anyone knows if a cassette adapter needs to have the tape transport in motion in order for it to operate. The reason I ask is that my tape player eats tapes and is very noisy. I opened the radio and and found the drive motor and I am thinking of cutting the power leads. I never use this cassette player and would like to be purchase a tape adapter if it will function after making the modification.

Some do, some don't. Some cassette players sense a stop if the drive motor (capstan motor) is not working, and force and eject. And some don't. Probably best way is to try it and see. Decent cassette adapters can be found for around $10.

Default I cut the wire

I cut the power lead to the capstan motor and inserted a tape to see if it would stay in or eject, it stayed in. Now can I assume that a tape adapter will function normally without the capstan running? If so, I will purchase one soon. BTW - it is very quiet and I'm sure it not require any more power than just playing the radio.
