Post High Pitched Noise from PIE adapter on s50

I got the pie adapter for the alpine head unit. Took me no time to get it
installed and got everything back together to hear a terrible high pitched noise.

This is the PIE adapter I got...

http://www.myradiostore.com/auxadapt...lp-ai-aux.html

I have an s50 in the cardock and sounds great over FM. I just thought I'd get
better sound if I wired it straight in with this thing.

Any ideas?

Okay two things I failed to mention.

1) I didnt turn the fm signal off from the car dock. could this cause the noise?

2) it is not road noise.

I guess I can try again with this unit if you tell me the fm transmitter being on could cause this obnoxious noise.

Thanks all!

Does the High pitched noise go up and down with the gas pedel ?

If yes you have created a gound loop. A very common problem.

Go to Radio Shack and get a "Ground Loop Isolator".

By road noise that is what I was referring to. So no, it is not the gas pedal whine or whatever. I've torn this system apart chasing road noise and ground loops. Found a short in a processor so that is out of the pic now.

I stay away from the isolators.

thanks for the reply. you think the FM signal being on would cause the problem from the car dock?

Probably not..

But why not just turn the FM transmitter off to see.. (The option is in the Device Settings selection of your S50 menu)...

If the noise is still there, then it's not the FM transmitter.

Only cause I feel certain it has no affect on this problem and I will have to pull the dash apart again.... Just grasping at straws. lol.

Calling PIE tomorrow I guess...

I am using mine with a Kenwood X-890 head unit which has an AUX in from the line out on the back of my S50 with no noise and FM on (not that it is usable as the signal is too low)

Do you have noise from your CD changer? If so possibly there is some conflict?

If you're asking if I have noise from the changer normally, no I don't. With this thing hooked up there was noise on it from what I recall. You could be onto something. I do remember seeing the id3 tag from the mp3 while the s50 was playing.... hrm.....

I used to run a Kenwood receiver module through my CD/MD changer input and as I recall there were settings on the changers that needed to be the same. I suggest checking the changer's switches if applicable.

I went external, portable because they have more features and are more useful than a box that is married to the car.
