Post Honda Element

I am looking to wire my element for my JVC plug n play. For years I have just slung it out the car door and onto the roof. Now I want a better install that will eliminate water leaks in the rain.

How can I do it with the antenna coming out of the rubber on the windshield?

This is a cool antenna placement for Element owners:

Instructions here:

I did this, except I opted to not use the foam build-up, my antenna is attached directly to the roof. I have not had any issues with signal reception even though the antenna is slightly angled.

Removing the plastic panel is really easy. There is a little removable piece (if you don't have a roof rack installed) above the swing-out door, pop that off first and then remove the bolt that is beneath it. Then, remove the bolt that is at the very back of the panel, you have to have the rear hatch open to get to it. The panel slides towards the rear of the truck, don't pull straight up on it or you may break the little tabs that hold it to the roof. You may need to give it a little push with a flat-blade screwdriver from where you removed the bolt above the swing-out door.

I ran the cabling down the rear hatch weather stripping, then into the spare tire area and then along the passenger side underneath the plastic panels and then up behind the glove box. I've got a lot of pics that I can post if you need them.

Thumbs up Inside

Thats a great idea. I may try it but with out the fabricated platform.

I have another question. What is the best way to get the antenna inside and to the windsheild to my plug n play?

Thanks

Thomas

I'm out of town until this coming weekend. I'll post pics of how I routed the antenna cable when I get back in town.

Here are pics of how I routed my antenna from the back to the front.

this is where it comes off the roof and into the rear hatch weather stripping. I tucked it inside the weather stripping and then down to the bottom.

this is how it looks after the plastic trim piece is re-installed.

this is where it enters the truck. the small gromet is located under the plastic panel that bridges the gap between the tailgate and back area of the truck. I made a slice in the gromet in order to get the antenna wire in it.

after feeding the wire thru the gromet, you have to feed it thru a small hole that is behind the white plastic flap in the spare tire area. then i fed it over to the side and under the plastic panel.

another pic of the wire running under the side panel in the spare tire area. I unbolted the seat belt so I could tuck the wire under the panel better.

this is a removable panel in the side panel for access to the shock absorber. I took it off so I could route the wire in a way so that it would stay under the panel better.

The is where the long flat plastic door sill would be. I took it off and ran the wire along with the other wiring that goes under the door sill.

another pic showing the wire running in the door sill area.

another pic showing the wire in the door sill area and as it goes into the side panel that is to the right and under the glove box.

this is where the side panel that is to the right and under the glove box would be. I ran the wire up thru here and then to the area behind the glove box. it also helps to remove the glove box. it comes out pretty easy. I think it was just two screws at the bottom of it.

I hope that helps out!

Jim
