Unhappy Disappointed

I've had Sirius now for 2 years, never had a problem using the FM transmitter on my old Sportster Replay. Could get Sirius outside, inside, upstairs....nice and loud. Decided to get my husband Sirius for Xmas (posted about that mess before) and ended up with two new radios, not just one. The Replay never fit well into my car, and the screen was on the fritz, anyway, it was just a matter of time.

The new Starmate 4 and Stratus fit into the cars great (the wonder of Velcro!) - but as we all know, they both have so little transmitter power. Sirius could at least make this info available to us so that we know ALL the right things to purchase! My husband is retired and not handy, so it's up to this old lady to try and hook things up. We can't afford to purchase all this extra crap on a retiree's income. Not to mention - my husband has an old Saab...just to replace a fuse in the thing costs $$$....(it's really fun to tune the frequency to half-gone numbers, too, lol.)

I am about ready to send back everything and buy an old used whatever to just hook up to the second car. Thank goodness I kept my Sportster FM Out wire which has helped the Starmate greatly. I haven't checked the volume on the Starmate, was listening to Talk Left so that wasn't a problem. But the Stratus isn't loud at all and it's an inch from the radio!

So here are my questions -

-- How do you tell a new Stratus from an old one? (i.e. if you were looking on eBay?) If I wanted something old, what should I look for that is smaller (not as high as the Sportster which won't fit into my car right)?

-- What options do I have for getting Sirius in my REALLY old house? I have been browsing the threads, but can't seem to find the right thing and wouldn't know how to hook it up if I did find it. I don't think hooking it up directly is even an option. I can't put Sirius where the Bose radio is, because then I don't have a place to put the antenna. I can't put the radio where the Sirius is, because there's no room. They are 8 feet apart.

The FCC really screwed things up for us. Not all satellite listeners are there because of Stern, nor are we in the city so people can share our signal. Grrr.

Sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble with your new radio. The Sirius Stratus just came out late last year. I don't think there are any old ones. Check out the tss-radio.com web page to see if this is the radio you have...

Have tried a FM Transmitter like the ones you can buy from The C Crane Company?

No, I just got the radios, so I haven't gotten around to getting a transmitter yet. I don't have an extra $60 right now, either, so I was hoping there was another option. I wish there was a way I could put a car kit in my kitchen so I could put one of those FM Out antennas in there.....because you can't do that in the Home kit.

However, I checked the Starmate and the volume on that seems to be ok. Good thing. I would be sending it back....
