That antenna is made to be outside. Maybe you received a bad antenna.

Can you return it?

I have the same problem here.3 bars at day...2 at night.I noticed the other day when it rained I had poor signal as well.Droped out every now and then. Now one issue I have is that i chafed the antenna casing in 2 places when installing it.Would this cause any problems?

Is there any wire showing? If the wire was cut in any way this will cause the issues that you are having.

It is normal for the signal to fluctuate throughout the day. The satellites are in orbit, so the distance between your antenna and the satellite varies continuously. You're probably farthest from it at night so your signal strength is weaker. As long as you're getting reception without dropouts, there's nothing to worry about. There's no sound quality difference between one bar and three bars.

If you think the antenna is leaking, try caulking the seams with clear silicone, or wrap it in plastic wrap to keep the moisture out.
