Default Hardwire Power to a Sportster in Grand Am ('02)

Has anybody done this? If so, is it pretty involved? I use my cigarette lighter to power my cell phone charger and would like to keep that free if possible.

I'm also thinking about doing the FM relay install myself, but i'm not exactly a vet with car audio installs.

go to radio shack and get the lighter acc. and tap in to the existing wires, then you can hide everything inbehind the dash.

If you want hardwire and FM relay look at the pro-kit, you can get it from Crutchfield for $25.49 + Shipping, just slightly more than the relay.

Review on pro-kit is here http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum...ad.php?t=93128

I've already got the FM Relay, just haven't installed it.

Do you have a link to the radio shack product youre referring to? I looked on their site and didn't see anything that seemed to fit the bill.

Sorry, i'm kind of a newb.

First I mounted the cradle and ran the wires (antenna & FM moulator). I then used the existing cigarette lighter power suppy cable that came with my car kit and cut off the adaptor (the part that plugs into the lighter socket) and hard wired it to the same circuit as my truck stereo. I put an in line 1.25 amp fuse on the +12v wire. Keep in mind my Audiovox PNP3 is a 12 volt receiver. It has been installed for over a year with out any problems and looks clean.

Is there any danger of shorting anything out when "tapping in" to the existing cigarette lighter wires like that?

The only time two devices would be powered at the same time through the same wires would be if I was charging my cell phone while listening to Sirius.
