Default Edit: Additional Question About DirecTV & Sirius Should I Ask Installer For Anything?

I am getting DirecTV installed tomorrow and have the Sirius Home CATV kit on the way. Since it is a new install and I will not have the Sirius home kit yet, is there anything that I should ask the installer to do that would help with my install?

I am hoping that he can leave me an easy wire to get to for the hook up or something like that.

Thanks

I think you need the DBS kit, not the CATV kit.

I am not certain, but I believe that you want a different kit. The satellite Intermediate Frequency into the house is 950-1450MHz, and that's a lot higher than the bandpass of the CATV kit will allow, not to mention the needed DC pass-through that's needed in the DBS version.

This is the kit you want for DirecTV/Sirius diplexing:

http://www.tss-radio.com/sirius-comb...ter-p-137.html

Perhaps that's what you've got, but there is another kit called a CATV kit, and if you use that with DirecTV, I think you're going to have problems.

If you order the DBS kit, you'll also need to order a Sirius outdoor antenna for it. The CATV kit comes with a Sirius antenna, the DBS kit does not.

Crap! I ordered the kit last night from TSS. Of course those guys are so good, they already shipped the equipment.

Considering the fact that I do not want to go through the pains of a return, is there any way that I can get it to work? I still have my regular cable installed, so can I use it somehow?

Thanks

Does the Sirius install with DirecTV about the same as the CATV one in the sticky?

There is really just one spot I need the Sirius to go to which is in my bedroom. The DirecTV will come into my room and I was hoping to attach the Sirius there.

If you still have the cable TV coax running from the outside to the inside, you can use that. Actually, you can use the kit, just without CATV and not installing it in the DirecTV RF chain.

Basically you would install the CATV kit per its instructions, without CATV service on it. In this case, you would be using the CATV kit as the interfaces between the Sirius antenna and CATV coax outside, and then CATV coax to Sirius radio inside. So if that CATV coax is available, and won't be used for the DirecTV install, then you could put the CATV kit on it.

Also, you could use the CATV kit simply by putting some RG6 coax from outside the house to the inside. Then the CATV kit is acting like an impedance transformer, and that's fine.

Or if you plan on continuing CATV service along with DirecTV (probably not likely), just use the CATV kit with the CATV install side of things.

But you definitely wouldn't want to use it in the DirecTV install at all. I don't see how it would work, and would not be optimal to DirecTV or Sirius installs.

Hope this makes sense. If not, please ask more questions.

I think you are in trouble, but I'm sure TSS will work things out. You really need the DBS kit

Thanks, that pretty much answers my questions. I would have asked before I bought the item, but did not think it would be an issue. I never thought that cable/satellite cabling would be different.

Thanks,

I will get the DirecTV kit ordered right away.

Is there anything special I should ask or try to get the installer to do so that it would be easier for me to install the Sirius to? I am guessing not, but you never know.

Thanks again for this great advice.

I think it should be pretty straight forward to install the DBS kit after the DirecTV install. I can't think of anything special. I think you will need one piece of 75-ohm coax to go from the dish LNB to the Sirius diplexer, but that would be it. Let us know how the install turns out.

DirecTV is installed and working well.

Once I get the package I will let you know how the install with Sirius goes.

Thanks again
