Default Cigarette Lighter Adapter for S50 Car Kit

hey everyone...first post from a proud new Sirius subscriber.

I got the S50 for xmas and use it about 50/50 in my car and at home. I got the car kit for it and all was good until today.

I actually blew out the cigarette lighter in the front of my car. Long story short a penny fell in it...sparks came next and now its dead. i checked the fuse box and everything but the fuse is fine so i think i fried the unit itself.

anyway, it's gonna be a while before i can take it apart and look at it and i do have another cigarette lighter in the trunk. Only problem is the standard adapter that came with the car kit doesnt reach past the back seat.

I've actually had it hooked up back there and have been using the remote but i was wondering if a generic adapter would work...and if so what should i look for (spec wise?) Hopefully i can find a longer one that works until i get a chance to replace the cigarette lighter in the front.

Any help would be much appericiated....TIA

A relatively easy workaround would be to buy one of these Add-A-Circuit devices for your fuse panel. Plug it into the current cig lighter fuse and then attach a cig lighter socket to that wire.

You can get both the ATM and ATC version of this at your local Autozone. They are around 1/2 the price of parts express.

Make sure you double check that fuse. Sometimes it's really hard to see if it is blown or not. I'm surprised if it did not blow because the short SHOULD have melted the fuse filament before anything else in the circuit.
Had a dead circuit problem in my old car a few years ago which I couldn't figure out. Lived with it for six months till I decided to really dive into the problem. Turns out the fuse that I thought looked good the first couple of times I looked at it was actually blown. The break was almost invisible unless I looked really close. Changed it and everything was fine.

That's good to know, altho most parts store people have no idea what I'm talking about. I just picked the first pic that came up in Google for visualization purposes. No endorsement was implied...
