Default GM Connect works with Alpine?

An installer at a local store was trying to sell me a SIR-GM1 Connect for my Suburban even though I have an Alpine HU. (CDA-9856). He said he uses the same set up in his car. Can anyone else verify this? They were currently out of stock of the SIR-ALP1.

Also, I'd like to install it myself. Is there a trick to taking the A pillar off in a suburban? Are there any other pearls of wisdom to this install? I might post a separate thread for installation. Thanks.

I think he was full of something, and I don't mean accurate, helpful advice.

Wait until they have the SIR-ALP1 in stock. There's also the SIR-ALP10T Tuner/Traffic System, although that costs quite a bit more.

What year bub? He was smoking something. That GM unit only works with P&P units. Crutchfields has the Alp-Sir1 in stock for $79, I paid $100 locally because everyone was out of stock. I’m running a similar setup, I have the Alp-Sir1 connected to my Alpine 9830 and it’s great. If you’re bub is a 2000-2004 I can walk you thru the install. It’s pretty easy. Let me know
Here's how I roll

H/U = Alpine 9830
Alp-Sir1 Sirius tuner = Sirius Sat Radio
Front Door Speakers = Alpine SPS-170A '6 1/2
Rear Door Speakers = Pioneer TG-1040R '3
Sub = Infinity Reference '10 1030
Amp = Profile CA400M
