Default Sportster 4 Home Dock Problem

I've had a Sportster 4 for about a month in my car, with no problems or dropouts or anything, so I just got a home kit so I could listen in the office. It's now been set up for 5 days, and the signal fluctuates real bad. Sometimes I'll have 7 out of the 10 bars in the signal indicator, and then 10 minutes later I'll have 0 bars. Then about an hour later, it might come back up to 3 bars, but still no audio, then eventually the audio will come back in, then back up to 7 bars, then back down, etc.

I'm in western North Carolina, and the window that the antenna is in is facing north-west, so I don't think that's the problem... does this sound like a bad dock/antenna? Anything I can try other than exchanging it for a new one?

I've also heard that the car antennas are more powerful than the home antennas... is this true? If so, I might be better off just getting another car kit and putting it in my office.

Thanks in advance

Is there any way that you can get the antenna outside?

Unfortunately not, the windows don't open

Also... probably should be mentioned that the windows are not tinted, and have no screen in them

I have the same problem with my boombox at work. I lose signal for a couple hours in the middle of the day. I don't think it's the equipment, just your location. It's in my boss' office so I can't go in every 10 minutes to move the antenna. It took a couple months to find the best spot. And that spot seems to move during the year. Good luck!

If the windows don't open pop a hole thru the wall and run the wire outside.

I can't be drilling holes through the wall of my office building. Outside is unfortunately not an option.

So, does anybody know if the car antennas are more powerful and I might be able to try one of them?

If not, I guess I'll just return the POS.

I have a Sporster 1 and a Stiletto 100. The Sporster has a home kit that I have set up in my room. The antena is outside on a windowsill. I get perfect reception all the time( knock on wood), At first I Tried to keep the antena inside looking out the window and got very spotty reception. So what the point is is that I think your probably going to have to have the antena fully ouside somehow. I would say the equipment is probably ok.
