Blitz,

Do we have details on how he is willing to do this? Will he take 5 individual payments as a group buy? What does he accept for payment?

I just emailed Blitz.

I don't mind sending payment to 1 person via Pay Pal. That person could then coordinate a single payment with the seller. I would imagine at that point individual units could then be shipped to each home with no problem.

I am a bit concerned about how much boost this thing will provide. It seems geared toward large open spaces like a mall or something. Where I would like to install is in the attic so I can get 100% coverage in a colonial style house where I have an upstairs, first floor, and basement. It would be fantastic to walk around the house and possibly the yard with no satellite headphones on. I am a little bit worried about the basement considering there is the furnace "trunk" that spans down the center of the house. Also, it would be nice to know the radius of coverage. It does say 100m but if there is a roof in the way how much does this cut it down? Not to mention the ceilings and other obstructions. 2 ceilings in the case of a basement.

You hit it on the head and that is my concern as well. Not sure how we will find out for sure unless we try it, but I think it crazy for us all to do it and spend money for something that may or may not work out. I know the 2 piece design that Directed is releasing will work, but not so much for portable devices as much as docked ones. Plus the 2 piece design is probably 900MHz and of course since I already have one for XM, they will probably conflict with each other.

From the repeater thread...

"Wireless Repeater System
SIR-WRS1

Create your own Wireless SIRIUS Network and enjoy SIRIUS Satellite Radio throughout your home or office, from up to 75 feet away! The SIR-WRS1 Kit includes one Transceiver one Receiver and an AC Adapter.

Simply place the compact transceiver where it can be connected to your SIRIUS indoor or outdoor antenna or signal routing system, and hook up power via the included AC power adapter. The Transceiver converts the SIRIUS satellite radio signal to 900mHz and transmits it wirelessly to any wireless receiver in range of the transceiver.

The Wireless Receiver connects to any SIRIUS home dock, boom box or docking system with no external power connection - it's powered directly from an antenna port! You can add additional receivers (p/n SIRWRR1 - SRP $49) as needed, if you have more than one SIRIUS radio to connect the the wireless network.

The SIR-WRS1 provides easy signal distribution from one antenna to one or more SIRIUS radios. Enjoy your own Wireless SIRIUS Network with the SIR-WRS1!

In fine print.
Range approximately 75 feet. Based on line of sight, unobstructed testing in ideal conditions. Actual range will vary due to local conditions including but not limited to environment, physical obstructions, transmitter and receiver location and orientation, interference and other possible impediments."
It is 900 mhz, so it may interfere with your XM repeater, and my wireless speakers.

I guess worst case scenario is that if it doesn't work in the attic then I can always put it somewhere on the first floor. I would imagine that I would definitely get signal on my first floor and then maybe the basement in some areas. My kitchen is pretty big and it leads into the family room. Those are the primary areas where I would like coverage. As it stands today I can get a tiny bit of coverage through the skylights in the family room. Only problem is if I move a 1/2 inch I lose signal.

Maybe it would be best to get 5 people to pay 1 individual $225($350 + ($200 x 4)). Then that 1 individual could buy a single unit at $350. If it works out then the other 5 could be purchased in quantity at $200 each. If it doesn't work out then the remaining 5 people could be refunded $200 and the 1 individual could keep the test unit. This way it's only a $25 gamble for 5 people instead of a $200 gamble. Of course we would need that trust factor for the 1 individual because they would either need to purchase or refund the money. Preferably a moderator in my book. The downside is that if it didn't work out then the 1 individual would be out $225 but at least they'd have the unit which might provide a bit of value.

Another thought is that if these are "custom built" units then I wonder if they could be boosted a bit higher to accommodate walls and floors. At what point do you get in trouble with the FCC?

Maybe we should send a link of this thread to the guy that is selling/invented this thing. Maybe we can get him to personally answer some of our questions.
