There was a write up about these radio repeaters on Orbitcast.com. Turns out the guy who invented this was also an engineer for Sirius. Just thought I would pass it along incase anyone is interested. Go to this site to check it out www.translightinc.com

Nice find! From the description, his "digital radio repeater" appears to be the same approach as the, e.g., Circuit City in-store repeaters (i.e., there's an antenna input, an amplifier, and an antenna output -- so there's a risk of building yourself an oscillator if you aren't careful). It also appears to be an identical design to the "GPS Repeater," other than the front-end bandpass filters that restrict the filter range to either GPS or Sirius. It finally appears to be a bit of vaporware at this point, but the concept is simple enough that I've no question that technially it can work... the tricky part will get getting FCC approval.

Ah, looks likes he's build them for XM frequencies as well, see: http://www.orbitcast.com/ ... the PDF file attached to that indicates that, indeed, that are functionally the same as the older transmitters.

I actually contacted this company. They can be ordered from their web site for $329. They will work with Sirius recievers. I couldnt get through to them with the phone number listed on their site, so I emailed them. They're sending me additional literature on this device.

Does anyone know how powerful this is? Would it work in just the room it is placed in or would it be powerful enough to go though walls and reach a whole house?

He said there definatly would be a price break. But he'd need to know how many to be able to give me a price.

It should work as good if not better than the one XM has available.

I would think it would work through walls. Other wise it wouldnt really be worth the price.

I wasn't aware that XM had one, what is it called. If it can cover a standard size house then I'm definitely interested in getting one. If you receive any info from the company can you post it here.

Yes I will. So far the only info I have from them was by email. The cost is $329, but there would be a price break for a multiple quantity order. If I could give him an idea of how many, then he could give me the pricing. He is suppose to send me some literature through regular mail. Once I get it, I will scan it and provide a link to a .pdf......Stay Tuned!!!!

The SIRIUS Wireless Repeater should be out in Late Spring.
It should be priced around $99.99.

If this works as we think, the Stiletto would be a wonderful device at home,
and would be able to take it with you also.

http://www.translightinc.com/gps-repeater.htm

This is what he emailed me:

Hi

Thank youvery much for your enthusiastic email... i agree with everything you said - thayt is why i left Sirius and started to develop this product `alone,,

The product is available now and you can order it here online -- i just shipped about a 900 repeaters to XM for use in their stores.. `

The price of the repeater in singe quantities is $329 but in Quntities 5 it dropes to $200..Let me knlow if you are interested and i will send you literature...

Best regards MDAVIDOV

So the question is this: Sirius has been saying this for several years now, what makes this any different? And where can we see some specs on this thing because I still would love to get one.
