Default Explain the SC-C1 Sirius Connect Universal

I'm looking to add a new head unit and sirius tuner to my new (to me) car. In my previous car I had a old Kenwood head and the SIR-KEN1, but looking to buy new I noticed now there is now the SC-C1.

However, it looks like the SC-C1 also requires another connector before it gets to the head unit, so instead of 1 tuner component I have 2? Or am I mis-interpreting?

The SCC1 is the tuner and the antenna. For the Kenwood you will also need the Kenwood Translator.

The SCC1 and the Kenwood Translator together will replace the SIR-KEN1.

So it's not any cheaper, takes up more room, additional wiring. Isn't this a step backwards from the SIR-KEN1? Is the SC-C1 available for most radios? I don't see many packages on TSS?

What is actually better about this hardware compared to the older single box tuners? Does it have any new features?

ps I'm not necessarily sticking with Kenwood, their product line on the low-mid end is a little week this year. I'm still looking around for a head unit.

The better part is now you can use the SC-C1 with any head unit.
Buy a different brand name head unit just get the translator for that head unit and keep the SC-C1. no need to buy a new tuner and transfer your subscription.

Damn. I went into best buy this morning to buy a new deck, a Kenwood that was on sale (and I got a free Ipod adapter) and bought the SCC1. They told me i wouldn't need anything else, but now apparently I do. I guess I'll have to go back.

Here's a thread about Alpine hardware.

I guess the translator + SC-C1 gets you some advanced features. And they just released a vehicle dock that will allow the translator to control PnP tuners, and get the Replay feature.

The package of the SCC1 seems to indicate that a translator may not be needed for some sirius ready head units, such as in vehicles that have them as standard.

My 2007 Volvo has a Sirius ready head unit but there is no indication on the Sirius packaging as to which vehicles will accept the tuner. The suggested Sirius website for the information does not exist anymore.

Anyone used one of these units with a Volvo S60?
