I am so pissed at the crappy quality of the Sirius hardware. In the last week I have had:

1. My SC-H1 stopped working. I installed my spare and everything was fine, so the tuner went bad for some reason. The radio was maybe 1-1.5 years old. Luckily the CS rep waived my transfer fee since the radio was broken.

2. The Starbase in my truck stopped working. Again I swapped in my spare and everything works fine, so the again the problem is a bad tuner. This was my lifetime sub and luckily the CS again waived my $75 transfer fee.

3. And tonight my damn repeater starts acting up. My audio is super choppy and I can barely get 2 seconds of continuous sound. I bypassed it and went straight to my antenna and everything works fine.

I still haven't replaced the radio in my truck and may just opt to listen to my ipod instead. I should NOT have to have a spare radio for every tuner I own. SO PISSED!!

Yeah, I think I may learn to live with only one sub from now on. As long as Howard is here I will do what it takes to keep at least one tuner, but if it continues to be a money pit after he's gone then it'll be easy to let it go after my lifetime tuner dies again.

I understand your frustration, especially when it comes down in a short period of time. I've expressed my opinion that consumers are willing to pay more for a quality product that is simple and lasts long.

I'd gladly pay more money for a radio that I could count on for the next 5+ years. I'll probably break down and install my spare Starbase this weekend if I get some time. Or maybe I'll sell it and use the money for a new home repeater. Ahh the options... I'm still pissed!

This just points to how important it is to do your homework before buying any receiver or peripheral. A good receiver should last you for years. I purchased two PNP3's quite a long time ago, and they still work just fine. I have held off upgrading them because I have yet to see any newer receiver that impresses me for the long haul. My advice is to get one of the old standbys from yesteryear off ebay. They may not be the newest, but they will last.

PnP3s are ok but they don't meet everyone's needs. In the car they make for a bulky and intrusive install, and you can't control them via USB for home use. Those second gen receivers do seem to be more reliable though. They get hot enough to cook eggs, but do they seem to last.

I bought one of those nifty laser pointer thermometers and pointed at the screen of my Sportster Replay. 115F...

You can brand steers with that thing...

I guess I have been lucky so far, knock on wood.

You guys should consider buying from BestBuy/CircuitCity and pay a few extra $$ for the extended warranty.

Hopefully, after the merger, if that ever happens, anyone will be able to enter the market, so we'll see some radios coming from top-notch electronic companies. Some real competition in the hardware market is definitely going benefit the consumer.

I hear this! My XACT unit never had a problem, except getting HOT... but the signal was awesome, never had issues like I do with my SL100. Speaking of, this &@#$ thing turns itself on all by itself! Ticks me off... I will listen to it as a portable, listening to replays of HS. I shut it off, place it back in the crap dock, and a few minutes later I'll look down, and the freaken thing is back in the replay mode. So I have to rewind to where I THINK I left off, and shut it off again. Why the poop does this thing turn itself on all by itself?!?!!!????
Just one of many issues I have had in the 6 months of ownership... besides the static and NO FREAKEN ANTENNA CONNECTED issue..... grrrrrr

We started to offer the squaretrade warranties on our site. They are super reasonable. Basically it's a third party company and the price is based on what you bought and how much. I've heard good things about them, but the warranty is about half the cost of a Best Buy/Circuit City one.
