Im thinking about adding a Sirius tuner to my XM lineup. I wish there was a way to cross-platform this stuff. Like add a Sirius tuner to my Pioneer Headunit... or a Pioneer XM tuner to a Panasonic Headunit.

At $129 for the tuner, and then $60 for a home and $60 for a car kit, the price adds up.
You will see this happen most likely in 2005. At that time, most of the exclusivity agreements will expire and you will see a number of manufacturers incorporating headunits to their lineup that are both XM and Sirius ready.

So don't buy in to that lifetime subscription just yet. You'll most likely find a unit that you like more for portability in the years to come.

I personally look forward to a better outdoor/boom box type of solution. The SkyFi for XM is very close, but I hear the boom box speakers suck for the $100 price tag.

I've been looking for a decent boom box with an AUX in that's adequate for outdoor use. I've found some with aux in, but thye are built for indoor use and are quite delicate. The sporty more rugged models don't have them and I'd prefer to use aux rather than an FM transmitter.
Even with all of this, the Kenwood would still be a bit to lug around and connect to a boom box for say, sitting by the lake or camping. I'm going to attempt it anywya.

I bought a very roughed Emmerson Boombox that has GREAT Sound. It has the Aux In. It does not have CD on it, but that was fine with me, cause I only wanted to use it for Sat Radio. I have a Jensen SSR 2000 modified to work with it now, but once I get the Kenwood H2A, I will remove the Jensen setup from it. So, It is very good for camping, going to the beach, swimming pool parties, pretty much anytype outdoor activities. There are pictures of it in the forum on the Sirius Install Garage, under the thread DABster living the SIRIUS life. However, it looks really bulky because I attached all the Jensen stuff to it, so as to make it one single unit. I don't really plan to do that with the H2A.

Thanks!
I actually saw those pictures before and I just went back and read the whole thread. That box may actually work great for me. I'll have to see if I can find one. I just want something not too fragile, not too expensive, with some kind of line in. A 12V DC in jack is also preferable over an AC in, but that's a second priority.

I just got the idea from the other pictures to go get a small Pelican durable plastic case and see if I can monkey with it to make a portable housing for the H2A if I can't find a way to attach it to the box.

Creative juices are flowing. I will update (on the other thread most likely.)

Default audiovox...

Audiovox is the real skyfi killer.. it is the same size.. it has FM modulation.. and will automatically tune to a station that has your fav song playing..

Actually, that picture is outdated. Audiovox has updated the style of their new PnP, and you can find the new pics here:

I can see from this post that Audiovox is going to continue to abbreviate channel names. I don't think the Kenwood does this as least my head unit tuner does not. I hate those abbreviated stream names, but hey... its just a personal thing. Most folks probably don't care.

**grin** Hey, you have to understand, I've had a Jensen SSR2000 for several months... I want to see it all now on my plug and play! But the real point is, WHY? abbreviate, then didn't need to do that. When I get my Kenwood H2A, it won't bother me at all...

Hey, we're striving for perfection.

Sometimes the design teams overlook simple things like this that drive consumers nuts.

Not to be cynical (but I will anyways ), you can never achieve perfection, or make everyone happy. They could have made the display so the entire stream name was displayed, but then people would complain that the font size was too small. The whole abbreviated name thing doesn't drive me nuts, as long as it is clear what stream I am listening to.

BTW, I would rather have the two line display with BOTH the artist and title info at the same time, like the Audiovox provides.

That is good, cause we've both got a choice. Mine is for the Kenwood with is single scrolling text and full name for streams. Your is the Audiovox with its abbreviations and two or more lines of text at one time. The beauty is that we can both get what we want.

My only concern is the quality of Audiovox, lets just hope they do it right!

Well, I went to Best Buy Thursday afternoon to pick up a Home2Anywhere unit and I saw nothing but the display poster. SKyfi had several boxes stacked to one side, but there was nothing but car stereos for Sirius. I asked the salesperson and he kind of game me a blank look so I figured it wasnt worth my time trying to explain it to him. I will try again this weekend and maybe even take a drive across the street to Circuit City -- wish me luck!
