I agree Buggy, it sure looks sweet! I think Kenwood did their homework on this unit. I love how the little home kit antenna has the speaker on it, that is cute.

I still have my Skifi. I got it on the Friends and Family deal, so I have 2 more months left on the required subscription.

I wonder how Sirius/Kenwood intend for you to mount the home antenna for optimal reception?

And if it comes with positioning directions...

The official release date is now Late May. The only reason some are saying June is because with shipping and everything, it may be June by the time the consumer has received it from the dealer. But, on Kenwood's end, Late May is the ship date.

Just wanted to keep you all updated.

Thanks Pete for the update. I appreciate your email the other day. You do a great job for Kenwood USA. I don't know if you are responsible for the updated info on the web site, but it looks good now!

I don't understand, how is it better than Sky-Fi? Is there a boombox or walkman option? Does it have more presets? Is it cheaper? Is the display more lines of info, is it easier to read? Is it easier to mount? It looks like the old Sony units that nobody liked. I have to have a satelite radio by August. Frankly I'm not impressed by the hardware available from Sirius. To my kid it's important that it work in her dorm room and in her car.

So what advantage does this have over Sky-Fi?

Hi buellwinkle, Welcome!

To be quite honest, we have no idea what capabilites it will have over the SkyFi. I have one on order, so we'll be sure to provide a full review and comparison when they become available to the public.

So the daughter is off to college this fall...how exciting!

Hey Buellwinkle, Welcome to SIRIUSbackstage. I don't think anyone has stated they felt it was better. I think Buggy said he liked the setup better. Rather I like it better than the Skifi is yet to be seen. I would have to argue with you that NObody liked the Sony units. There are still people asking for those. The only real issues that the Sony had was the first unit had a poor screen and that irritating fan. Skifi after all was produced with the smaller and much cooler running 2nd generation chipset, which is mainly what has given it the advantage. I know many folks that have the old Sony P&P and they really like it.

This new Kenwood P&P has SIRIUS's 2nd generation chipset. Though I have not seen the screen, I have been around Kenwood products to know they aren't going to put a crappy screen on this unit. I personally like the form factor better than the Skifi, but that is a personal thing. The other advantage that it has is that it receives SIRIUS, which I also prefer over XM. Though I do have both and enjoy both.

I'll be looking forward to getting it and reading not only Jeff's review, but all the folks that get it. I have it ordered along with the home and car cradle kits so we shall see. I have 30 days to return it, if I don't like it. But if its anything close to all the other Kenwood equipment I have it going to ROCK! Kenwood makes good equipment as good as anything made for XM in my book.

I think your daughter would be happy with the Kenwood and SIRIUS service.

She's going away to a school that only has one radio station in town and it's country, not her thing. So I promised I get her one and she doesn't care which one. If all she needed it was for her car then I would take one of the free deals with Sirius and it would be over. I like the idea of commercial free. But being able to throw it in a boom box and take it with her is a big plus. I think the Sky-Fi is ugly but as of today it's either that or the Sony. With the Kenwood that would make the choice harder. If sirius offers it free on the friends and family deal then it's a no brainer.

You guys want to see something really cool check out the iTrip. It's a tiny FM transmitter that plugs in top of an iPod and will play on any FM radio within 30'. That great because you can use it in so many situations - http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itrip/ To me that would be an ideal Satelite radio. Just move it from car to home to beach without any wires, cradles, cassette adapters. I know it's not as good as a direct connection but it can't be much worse than a cassette adapter.
