I am sorry Ryan, I guess I had some how over looked your post on the home cradle kit. I went back and read again. Your report sounds really good. I am surprised by the reception on this thing even just using the car cradle kit antenna, I have mine sitting here on my desk and its got between two and three bars.

While most of you are enjoying the quality and sound of your new Kenwood H2A's, I still battling with Best Buy in Connectciut to get one.

6/7/03 Sat 1130am. I went in and from halfway across the store, I saw the h2A boxes sitting on top..YES !! YES!! (since I saw pics of the boxes here on siriusbackstage)!!! I then jogged over to the audio dept and look carefully at the H2A boxes on top if the displays....ALL I SAW WAS CAR KITS!!! (KPA-H2C)GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I asked the BB guy that came over. He said "That is what we got in the Fri night delivery." NO tuners or home kits came at all.. WTF!!!!!!!!!!

I called the other 3 Best Buys further away from me in CT.. They all got car kits only!!! WTF WTF WTF WTF!!!! One guy said hes been getting tons of calls for the H2A and he told his boss he should order some extra, and the boss didn't care. Best buy in CT gotta get thier act together. By Monday if there is no tuners in CT, I think I'll drive aways to NY/NJ if they have any.

Well I did buy the car kit, its just sitting here as a useless piece of plastic....Well I can say though the antenna is very nice and small...The cradle reminds me of the orginal Sony P/P DRN-XM01 I used to have when I first got XM in 2001.

Default My Experiences with the H2A, H2C and H2H from BestBuy in PA

My story starts Thursday morning, July 5th. I called up the BestBuy in the South Hills. They had 6 units in stock with 6 H2C car kits. No home kits.

I was in the North Hills, so I called the closest store to where I work. No units in stock at all.

I had my brother go to the South Hills store to pick it up while they had them.

Thurday night I had it activated and was operating from the car kit with a car 'jumper pack' that had a cig lighter socket in it.

My brother informs me on Friday that the BestBuy in the south hills received a drop-shipment that morning of the home kits. We went out to pick one up.

At that point I went out to my Honda and yanked out the Audiovox unit that was in there.

My initial impression is awesome. I also found that the song/artist scan for favorites is not included. I can live with that. The major pros are:

1) VERY FAST aquisition and stream changing. The new kenwood takes a fraction of the time to lock onto a stream than any Gen 1 unit I've used. Also, the title information is shown almost immediatly.

2) The channel/artist/title listing function is very smooth. You have the option to bring up a stream listing and show for each stream what artist or title is playing on that stream. The listings update as you watch if the song changes. Very nice.

3) Signal aquisition is great. This unit can pull signal from inside my home facing east or west when the antenna is near the window. I've been able to do this with the car antenna as well as the home antenna.

4) The car kit allows you to connect the old 1st gen antenna if you already have it installed. You'll have to remove the plastic clips from the old Terk, but you can still use it if you have it.

As some other folks have mentioned this unit gets warm. I used it for several hours Friday and deffinatly noticed it was warm to the touch. But this doesn't seem to be a problem for overheating.

The only other problem I seem to have is mounting the unit. It's much smaller than I thought it was going to be based on all the pictures I'd seen, but my little Honda civic just doens't have all that much room for the craddle without blocking something else. I think I've finally found a place for it and am going to work on that this afternoon. I'll post in the install group once I find a good location.

In general I love this unit. It's small, fast, and the display is awesome. It doesn't have the song search, but that wasn't a major concern for me.

If you want to buy this at Best Buy and you don't have one already, I expect that most stores will have it by the weekend. Call around because at least around Pittsburgh some stores got them on Thursday and some didn't.

Thanks Tony J, that is a really good review. I hope everyone that wants one of these babies will be able to get one during the weekend. If not just remember it will be well worth the wait. I know easy for me to say, I already have one. Well actually I am still waiting on the home kit.

The home kit is pretty nice. It comes with a rather small AC-DC converter which takes a standard PC power cable on the AC end.

Here's some pics of it:

I picked mine up yesterday, the receiver and home unit. It is sweet!!! I love it!!

My only small problem is that it does not have a Sleep/Timer function i would like for it to turn off when I go to bed. It was on all last night a little warm but nothing to worry about.

btw- I just picked up the Animatrix DVD, that is one sweet DVD!! I am having a good week.

Default FINALLY!!

DATELINE 6/8/03.

I am finally getting sick of seeing everybody here get thier H2A's and my BestBuy's in CT don't have nuttin in stock!!! Called all CT BesyBuy's today, nothing, BS!. So came this conclusion:

I saw a post on here from user "recteach." He picked one H2A tuner up from BestBuy in Yonkers, NY on fri. So I called them 3 times today, ring ring ring ring -- They never answered their phone. I had now no idea if they had anymore left - question: Should I drive 60+ miles and take the gamble?

Well I said F*k it! I went for the ride, it took me about and hour and 1/4 tank of gas each way to get to Yonkers, NY from my house in Connecticut. Thanks to Mapquest.com, I found the store no prob. I went in, the store was packed, people everywhere. I went over to the audio dept., and looked up top on the displays..NUTTIN, ZIPPO, NADA. I was starting to think I wasted my time, money and gas on driving to NY for nothing.

I then saw in a glass floor display case the infamous H2A boxes!! I looked up close, and I saw several H2A car kits, AND ONE TUNER!!!! through the glass YES! I got a store employee over who retrived me a tuner, and I picked up another car kit too.

Then I drove home. And had to explain to my wife why I was gone all late morning and early afternoon today. I switched from my Audiovox to the H2A, no prob w/ Sirius cust care..ITS GREAT, I love the display and the sound, you guys were 100% on with that!

So beacuase of Best Buy's poor disturbution management of the Kenwood H2A in Connectciut, I had to waste almost 3 hrs in travel time, about $11.00 in gas, $6.00 in tolls, to travel to NY where Best Buy was on the ball with stock. I Think this was totally ridiculus that I have 2 Best Buys, one 4 miles from me and the other 14 miles, and niether have them, esp when everybody else in the US has them almost. I'm glad the battle is over, and I'm very happy and pleased to join you all on here that have a H2A.

If anyone is in CT/NY/NJ and is going through the same BS with Best Buy. Go to Yonkers, NY Best Buy 2458 Central Park Ave., they had 2 H2A tuners left as of 6/8/03 at noon.

Hey Buz, I am glad you finally got you one. Amazing what we will do to get this little jewel. I totally love mine, so I think you made the right decision to take the trip, even though it cost you extra. I had mine shipped in and paid like $17.00 dallars to have it shipped over night, so I know how you feel.

The sound is indeed incredible. Welcome to the H2A Sirius Fam

I've had mixed results with the home kit. The primary reason i bought it was to use at work. The only signal i can get at work is from a repeater.
It has ranged from poor to unusable. The Ski-Fi works fine. I sent an e-mail to customer care this morning, asking if there was a problem with the repeater(s) in Phoenix. So far, no response.

On the other hand, the home kit worked great in my house. I tested it in the worst location i could find and got between 2 and 3 bars. It sounded
great on an old $40 RCA portable radio.

just my 2 cents

Does anyone know if Kenwood is going to ship fm transmitters for use with the H2A? I am currently using the tape adapter in my car. The highs sound like wavs crashing on the shore. Not good. In my house the H2A sounds much better using the stereo out. Still not CD quality but very good. I ordered an iROCK to use with the H2A. Hopefully this can clear up some of the sound problems.

Thanks

They do have a hardwired FM-mod available, the KCA-20FM. It should be available at most stores that sell the H2A very soon, if it isn't already.

Let me know how the iRock works, that would be a quick solution if reception is good.

Jeff
I've been using the iRock all week in my Jeep Wrangler with my H2A. It works very well, actually, but it being battery powered is just one more thing to have to turn on/off when getting in and out. The signal seem plenty strong enough and sounds pretty good.
I have the H2A inside a steel center console where the IRock is as well so the console shields some of my signal. I get a little static if it's in the wrong position but it's not difficult to get it so it's clean.
Yesterday I ordered the JVC KS-IF200 from Crutchfield as it's the best FM Modulator I could find (even between local stores.) http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...0&I=257KSIF200 But after messing with the H2C in my Wrangler last night I'm just not happy with any of the mounting solution I've attempted. I was trying to get it in the DIN shaped section designed to hold a car stereo.
I gave up and ordered a free AudioVox through the Friends and Family program. I figure a year's worth of $6.99 service on the free audiovox is cheaper than replacing my H2A. Constantly carrying it from car to home is going to have some wear and tear on the unit, expecially the antenna contacts on the back. So I've decided to keep the H2A for home and portable/camping use exclusively and that way it's not being moved from cradle to cradle 4-6 times a day.

Getting a new Kenwood head with 902 tuner and antenna is way too expensive, but that's the way I would rather go. We just did a Kenwood MP522, 901+antenna (901+antenna for $50) in my wife's Jeep Cherokee. I think I'll stick with the current (free AudioVox FM Mod) plan until integrated head/sirius tuners come out.

The IRock is great. I'm going to use it while camping. Stick the H2A in a box with antenna on top and transmit to a boom box via RF with the IRock.
