Default ixnay on the audiovox shuttle

I've been waiting for this to come out so I can sign up.
I finally saw one at my local Circuit City... yuck.
This thing is HUGE, dwarfed only by the Garmin GPS that is slightly larger.

The only place I could see using this is on a boat or a big truck or something.

In contrast, the new XM device coming out looks tiny. But I want Sirius.

Any idea when gen2 head units or tuners like a Panasonic will be out? I might as well replace my head unit if I can't do a decent flush install of a Sirius addon tuner.

The Kenwood 902 tuner is out already in many stores. Get it free with a Kenwood HU or FM-mod(part #KCA-R70FM) and antenna. That will likely be the only 2nd gen tuner box for awhile.

I hear you, that Shuttle is a beast, specially when you consider the new Delphi Roady is about 1/4th the size and no cradle required. Damm, why can't the best satelite radio provider also have the best equipment. I've had mine for about 2 weeks and can not find a place to put it in my car (it looks better in my truck). I don't know what to do, I really like Sirius but the equipment is lacking and I can't find a place that will honor their free tuner deal except the Kennwood and I hate the way it looks, also a beast in display size considering it only has a 1 line display.

JVC will be coming out with a PNP sometime this year. I don't know if it will be smaller, but hopefully it will make some improvements in size.

There is little doubt that we need smaller units, but I don't really have a problem with the size of the Audiovox. It was harder to find placement for this unit, but I did find a great place for mine. There was one comment on XMFAn from some idiot that said the Audiovox is so big it really wasn't feasible to haul around. I don't mean to sound like a stick in the mud, but I think way too much is made about the size of the Audiovox. I did the comparision myself and while its bigger it isn't THAT much bigger than the Skifi.

In regards to the comments that SIRIUS equipment is lacking. I disagree, perhaps its lacking smaller size units, but the Audiovox has features that currently NO other unit offered on SIRIUS or XM side in a plug and play unit.

If you don't like the external unit, then the only alternative would be a head unit and currently only Kenwood offers a 2nd generation tuner that uses the 2 generation antenna. So, you may consider looking at a Kenwood Head Unit, which would give you the best flush install of all. There are currently deals abound for getting a free tuner with the purchase of Kenwood Head Unit and 2nd Gen Antenna.

It doesn't get smaller than a Miata, and it fits just fine.

And, it fits right under that huge Garmin GPS...

I agree with you Sam, it just take a little effort to find the right place and then do the installation. It all depends on how bad you want to use a Plug and Play unit in your vehicle. Some folks though, just don't like the fact that they stick out. Then there are those that refuse to put an atenna on their cars etc. I think its all kind of crazy myself. I have the Audiovox with one subscription and I have it in my auto, home and office.

You know I have been lurking for a while and love this site and SIRIUS. I have made one comparison in the Shuttle and the Delphi on the differences in size. The Delphi is not that much smaller at all when you consider that the Shuttle has all of the connections on the back, rather than connecting at the bottom like the Delphi. I will admit that the Shuttle is thicker than the Delphi which is explained when you compare the two codsidering the placement of the connections.

Here is what I think makes the Shuttle better than the Delphi:
Better Display
More Display modes
Wireless FM Mod (That Works)
Full Scrolling
More Presets
Favorite Song Save that actively seeks the Song
Better Programing (I know, Service not hardware)

Just my 2 Cents

No, the Delphi is about the same size, same thickness, 1 1/2" and when you consider that the cradle sticks out below the unit about an inch it may even be bigger. But the new Roady is sweet, 1" thick and 4" by 2.5" and no cradle so it would fit in the ashtray of many vehicles and be movable, specially with the wireless transmitter built in. The problem is I really like Sirius way better than XM. Maybe the JVC will be the answer.

Yeah what type of mount is that? And is it one mount that supports both the Garmin and the Shuttle? I also have a SP3 (love it) and haven't decided where/how I'm going to mount it so I am just using the ole beanbag thingee. Ditto for the Shuttle tho I haven't bought that yet...

I used an Omnimount speaker mount from Radio Shack. I had to because the vehicle specific mount from ProFit Intl was used up by the Garmin. You can see pictures from the install on my website.

Sorry guys, that thing is huge, and I refuse to have crap sticking all over my dash (no offense to those who do, I just don't like the way it looks).

Guess I'll have to wait for Panasonic to come out with a gen2 tuner for their head units and hope the new XM device isn't as good as it looks on paper.

Hey, none taken. To each his own, you know. However, half an inch here or there is not going to make that much difference. For you to avoid having stuff on the dash AND have a plug and play unit, it would have to be mighty tiny....

The big draw for PNP units like the Audiovox is being able to use it in multiple places with the same account. The Delphi is only slightly smaller. It will most likely be a matter of time (maybe 1 or 2 years) before we have something the size of a pager, like one of the original Rio MP3 players. That would be sweeeeeeeet.

I bought the Audiovox Shuttle today. I am surfing all that Sirius has to offer. I have it connected to my PC in my office here at home. I live on the Pacific Coast south of SF and we don't get FM reception (AM is fair). I like the large display and it is very easy to read. Haven't decided yet on wether to place it in my car.

So for now I am exploring all that Sirius has to offer!
