i just called audiovox and they said that there superiors told them that it will be available sometime between mid december & after the holidays. She did mention that it was an excellent boombox though! as far as the website, she said that should be posted within the next 2 weeks...sounded like she knew what she was saying at least

They didn't get an early enough start to make it in time. Remember the PNP1 appeared sometime in August so that doesn't give them that much time to design the plastics, do a pilot run, modify the molds then go to production. Then there's all the regulatory approvals needed to sell a powered device.

What a pity to slip past Christmas.

The boombox is key for gift giving. You don't know if the recipient wants to go to the trouble of car installation, whether they have room for a PNP2 on the dash, if they need an FM modulator or PIE adaptor, or the home kit instead. With the boombox they just plug it in and turn it on.

Actually, XM is slightly better for gift giving because they have a handful of preview stations, so the recipient could still use it without subscribing. Sirius has the advantage that the boombox will probably be of better quality construction than the Delphi.

I called AudioVox yesterday, and they said the boombox was on backorder and would be available in a couple weeks. This looks like a New years gift

It might have limited qty in select stores before Christmas. Clayton promised this on CNBC just a few days ago. Which stores, who knows.

clayton is a pr spokesman. he doesn't know jack. he is only relaying what he was told. i mean if this guy had a clue, when he was on cnbc he would have had a boombox in his lap to show to the world, he has no idea how to sell. not to mention he sounds like a bumbler da da dhu duh. go back and read all the press releases surrounding CD Radio and check and see for yourself how slow they have always been to living up to any promise. why do think xmfan is always blasting this guy? But seriously go read all the history on sirius (CD Radio) on www.yahoo.com or on www.sirius.com. It is pretty interesting stuff! Did you know that the stock was at one time around $60?

Clayton knows more than the CSR you spoke to, I can assure you of that. As far as having a boombox, that wouldn't be a good idea, because he knows he has limited quantities, and the last thing you want to do is generate demand for the "Boombox" and send your customers to XM who has them well stocked in the stores. There's a time for promotion, and a time to lay low. Always sell what you have and are ready to deliver lest you benefit your competitor. That's a rule that should be followed with great dicipline.

Yes the stock used to be $60, but don't blame clayton for the drop in price. Since march, the stock is up over 400%. Not bad.

well, isn't the boombox going to have any differentiating facets than XM? I would have went on air with the boombox in hand with delivery date in mind and mentioned what retailers will have it...and just explained in brief detail that they could buy into the NFL, NBA, NHL CNBC, commercial free music streams buy purchasing the sirius boombox over the other guys. the consumer is educated about this stuff to some degree i feel. but i definitely see the validity in your previous response..excellent point well taken

The two most obvious ones will be the real handle that I have heard it has, and the AUX input for an MP3 player, discman, etc.

I was at Circuit City Last night. I just purchased the Audiovox PNP2. I had hoped they would have the Boombox but they don't as of Friday Night December 19th. Christmas is less than 1 week away now. I was really hoping for this baby to be out for christmas. I guess we'll all have to wait untill after new years. I can't afford to drive 50 Miles one way to Circuit City all the time. I called the Circuit City before I left the house to see if they had the new audiovox PNP2 and the guy (Dumbass) told me they were all sold out currently. It just so happens I was going to the Town where the nearest Circuit City to me is Anyway for some final gifts to wrap up my christmas shopping for this year. Well as Luck turns out I went in Circuit City and they actually Did have the new PNP2 audiovox units and the guy i talked to on the phone didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. I am glad i went in and actually looked around before I started my 50 mile trip back home. So I was able to get my new PNP2 but They didn't have the boombox. If only i had a jet plane to get to circuit city faster. it'd be my luck when the boombox does come out to call ahead to find out if they had the boombox only for me to start my 50 mile drive to circuit city and for them to be sold out before i could get there.

Rob27, I think you ran into what is, for many clerks, a defense mechanism and a lazy response.

Tell the caller you are out, they go away.

Tell them you have it, (and you run out or were mistaken) and you have one VERY angry caller in your store, in your face, yelling and upset. It isn't like they can or should hold a unit for you either, unless you were to like pay for it, which is against store policy. Callers can be just as bad--saying put it aside then never showing up...having found the item a dime cheaper somewhere else or changed their mind and gotten Aunt Mary a diaper bag instead.

Calling stores for info on prices and what's in stock is an iffy proposition at best. And it drives stores (and clerks) crazy.
