The replay has a light sensor in the face.. It causes the display to dim at night...

If you block light going to the sensor for a second or two, the radio wiill think it's darker and dim the display further. If you block the sensor with your hand, this can happen. (The sensor is in the little clear rectangular opening under the tuning knob).

If it's doing this when you aren't any where near the unit and the surrounding light is absolutely constant, then perhaps there is a fault with the dimming circuit...

I know on my "old" Sportster there is an auto-dimming feature in the menu that can be turned off and on.

Not sure if this is available in the Replay.

The replay has the auto or manual dimming options, like the regular one.

I had to do this due to where its mounted in my truck. I would notice that as the day went on and sun got overhead it would hit the sensor though the w/s, it would dim down and get harder to see, as if the screen was "fading", then as the sun lowered, it would briten back up.
I at first thought it was the tuner heating up and fading untill i noticed it coming back as the day wore on.
I switched to manual, now it stays the same all day.

My regular Sportster had the auto-dim feature, but it never seemed to work, or at least it didn't do much.

My Replays was noticable. It annoyed me, so I turned the feature off, and just set the display where it is pretty decent both night and day.
