Default Xact XTR7... I Broke Down... :)

Well, I broke down tonight... Too much overtime gives me extra cash, which, well, causes me to BUY things.

I bought the XTR7 tonight. It is GORGEOUS BLACK. I know it is just the starmate with a new wrapper, but it is just beautiful.

Now the problem with the 7. What in GOD'S NAME DO I DO WITH A suction cup for a MOUNT?! Winshield? Nope, I drive an Intrepid, and it is a mile away. Above the vents? Nope, sucky cup won't stick.

So, since I LOVE my vent mount on my Roady2, I am taking trash bag wire and putting it through the back plate of the 7. HOPEFULLY that will work. I'll let you know in the morning, since I just got it activated tonight, and I'll 'PLAY' More.

Decided to keep the Jensen and boombox for work, and bring it home at night to put in the Auto kit to broadcast on 88.1 throughout the house, then I'm never without Sirius in the car.

Thought of getting the 7 boombox, but this works well, so I never have to take it out.

So, that's it. If anyone has any better ideas for a mount PLEASE let me know.

Thanks!

Steve

My wife got the xtr2ck with the suction cup mount.

I took the part of the suction cup mount that connects to the tuner off and screwed it to a "pro-fit like mount." So now it unhooks off this mount as it would for that suction cup mount.

Let me know if you need more help.

P.S. Put the rest of your $ in the bank!!

Default Cool...

That's pretty cool, where did you get this mount? I could probably do something like that.

I hate to say it, I really LOVE the stupid vent mount for my roady2. It is such a perfect fit in the car.

And yeah, savings would be good, but I think I need a blackberry first.

What I did was bought a bracketron universal mount at Circuit City. I made a few adjustments on it so it would fit her car (actually both of our car units are done this way). Then I took that POS suction mount apart and screwed it to this mount. The mount only cost $20.

I like it much better, too. Also, it's sturdy as hell.

I think you "want badly" a Blackberry, not need.

Default CC...

circuit city huh? I'll have to check it out tomorrow. That looks really good, and yeah, I was thinking of ways to take apart the suction cup mount.

As for the blackberry, no I need it. It is very hard writing email (State Business and Personal Business) on my i860.

Not only did I get the 7, but I also compared the 7520 Nextel and 7100g from Cingular. Probably going to go with the 7520, because I already have 6 phones on my nextel account.

Yeah. I love my toys, and I HATE being out of contact.

Thank you very much for the advise on the mount. I greatly appreciate it.

How does that bracket actually attach to the vehicle?
Looks like it fit inside somewhere. Very nice clean installation.

I took the plastic piece out from around the radio. Then I screwed the mount it and put that plastic piece back on. It's solid with no movement.

Well, I had hitched it up last night using the trash bag ties... And then I was futtzing around this morning, and noticed, that the suction cup bracket actually FITS inside the little shelf under the RADIO!!!!

IT LOOKS GREAT!

I'll post pictures tomorrow, I'm too tired tonight...

Thank you for your advise, I greatly appreciate it.

OH, and well, my blackberry 7520 will be arriving on Monday.

Looks like you've alredy come up with a good mounting system, but I'll throw my ideas at you anyway. Not necessarily better, just some other options.

1. I recently found that the suction cup fits nicely into the cup holder too. This opens up some options.

2. When installing a Sporster IR in a friend's Miata (very small cockpit, tiny windshield, with not too many mounting position options), I took two suction cup mounts (hers and my unused one from my JVC car kit), unscrewed the joints and removed the actual suction cup section from each one. Then married the two remaining portions together (the joints fit together nicely), so now I had two swivel/adjustable portions attached to each other, with the four-hole mounting plates on each end. Sorta like a robotic arm. I then attached (with screws) one end plate to the right side of the center console, just above where the passenger's left knee would be, and attached the Sporster IR to the other end. This made for a conveniently adjustable (I think two elbows and two pivots) mount that was perfectly placed, not too obstrusive, and could easily be swung out of the way if the passenger is huge or has really long legs and needs every inch of space. I must say, I was pretty pleased with my innovation... Sorry, no pics.
