I'm glad to see the $30 rebate is kicking in

I tried to download the rebate form from the Info link above but I got a 404 error. Here's the fine print at the bottom of the page (bold added by me for emphasis):

Quote:
*Offer valid only on a purchase of any eligible Sirius-compatible hardware at select retailers from August 7, 2005 through October 1, 2005. Purchases from BJ’s. Costco, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club and Target are not eligible for this offer. Offer open only to residents of the United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) who are at least 18 years old. A prepaid subscription of six-months or longer, paid by credit card or SIRIUS prepaid card, must be activated within 14 days of purchase. After completion of the initial subscription period, service will renew automatically for additional periods of the same length on Sirius’ standard Terms & Conditions. To receive the mail-in rebate, customer must submit original receipt for the purchase of the eligible SIRIUS hardware, the original UPC code from the hardware packaging, the electronic serial number of the hardware and a fully completed redemption form to: Sirius $30 Rebate Offer #5775, PO Box 42934, Mesa, AZ 85274-2934, postmarked within 30 days of the date eligible hardware is purchased. No reproductions of rebate offer or proof of purchase accepted. Once the necessary documentation has been submitted, SIRIUS will verify that the required subscription has been activated and remains active and that the account is active and in good standing and mail a check for $30 to the name and address on the redemption form within 8 to 10 weeks. If you have not received your rebate within 10 weeks, check status at https://www.web-rebates.com/sirius/ or call Sirius at 1-888-539-SIRIUS. Activation fee and taxes may apply. Limit one rebate per ESN. Service cannot be assigned or transferred. Sirius makes no warranties with respect to Sirius-compatible hardware. Subscription to service is sold separately from hardware and is supplied in accordance with Sirius' standard Terms & Conditions. Service may not be available in all areas. Cannot be combined with any other gift or rebate offer. Cannot be sold or transferred. SIRIUS reserves the right to modify or terminate this offer at any time. All fees and programming are subject to change. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. Rebate fraud will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. © 2005 Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. Why are there no rebates from BJ’s, Costco, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club and Target?

That seems odd to me.

That's a very good question. It is either because those companies don't want to deal with rebates, or they negotiate special lower wholesale pricing and therefore Sirius doesn't expect to pay twice so to speak. Just guesses on my part.

Monco is right on the lower wholesale price thing. I've come across a number of products (printers, etc.) that explicitly excluded Costco, Sam's, etc. Besides, their "special packaging" sometimes comes with a unique UPC code that does not match the rebate offer.
