Default My JVC HU review

I wanted to replace my Alpine hu mainly because of the lacking features for Sirius. No look-ahead feature is my biggest gripe. To see what's on the next channel you have to change the station. It did show artist and song, but, when listening to the NFL the bottom line would not scroll to see the score if both teams had two digits. It would read a score of 10 to 1, not 10 to 17. When you have every game I like to move around to see all scores and that made it difficult as you had to wait for the announcers. It did have a lot of sound options but I could never listen to the Reggae channel without annoying vibrations. Enough about the Alpine...

I purchased the JVC KD-SHX750 which can be had for a great price at CarDomain. http://www.cardomain.com/item/JVCKDSHX750?vq_id=none.

I've never owned a JVC product and never considered one for my car. I've owned Sony, Eclipse, Alpine and Pioneer and I have to say this unit is by far the best receiver I have owned. The sound options are not as advanced as some others but I was able to configure a perfect setup for listening to talk and music. I can listen to the Reggae channel now, clean and thumpy. It has BBE and CCC sound proccessing and more that I'm not going to detail.

The most important part was the Sirius hook-up. The preset lists are a 3 step approach which was annoying at first but secondhand now. I can listen to one station and look ahead to 18 presets on my head unit! Also hitting the display button I can see artist, song or channel in presets. Not possible with others unless you have gps or dvd screen. The NFL scores are the same as my previous Alpine but now it will scroll and I can see the score without waiting. The SD card feature is pretty cool and has the same features to be able to look at your folders of artists or song titles.

The Pict featue is kinda cool but more of a gimmick and not really used by me. I don't need to see robots dancing while I'm driving. I installed into a 2005 Jeep Liberty. Installation was really easy. The tuner slipped in right beside the hu.

I love this thing. The sound is great. JVC has done a great job with the Sirius tuner. They have come a long way in making HU's.

How about showing us a pic of this new HU in your Liberty.

I'd love to see it in action, with the Sirius display, etc..

I didn't know you could not post local images so I took some low-rez pics and quickly cropped them trying to save bytes. I threw them up on my .Mac site. I'll take some better pics tomorrow, these aren't top notch but you will get the idea.

Actually just like with my JVC AR960 all you have to do is press and hold the BAND button for 2 seconds and the preset listing pops up. Unless yours works different than mine. The JVC is top notch I started to get the full colored display, but didn't, so I'll be curious to see pictures and to find out how it does in direct sunlight. The AR960 is fantastic in direct sunlight.

Yes, you are right. I guess I should read the manual again. (pressing band button). I wasn't thrilled with the PICT feature but now I'm hooked. I'll post some some pics of those tomorrow. It is pretty cool even if it is more for showing off than anything.

The SD slot is very convenient. It renders the CD player just about useless. (unless a friend has a cd I don't). It plays 1GB cards fine although it says there is a 512 max. I am going to try a 2GBer soon when I get the cash to burn cause it won't get used when I have my iPod. Still a useful feature and the sound is great using CCConverter. The sound is awesome for all sources.

Yes, I use the heck out of the SD slot with a 1gig sc card. It allows me to copy over music from my computer to the card so that I can have a good variety of music. One of the things that I keep a lot of is ambient/new age type music on mine because that is the one area that Sirius lacks right now. Sometimes when I am on long trips, I just love that type music as I find it so relaxing. I don't think I've ever used the CD player except one time when buddy took a trip with me and he had a new CD he wanted to listen too.

I have messed with the PICT feature on mine, but since mine isn't full color like yours it is not that appealing, so other than setting up a killer start up and shut down PICT that I downloaded from the JVC web site, I've not really don't much with it. I do love how mine will automatically at the times selected go between a negative and positive display. This is really killer for night time driving.

Overall I think this is one of the best HU available today for Sat Radio especially in the mid range pricing point. Like you I enjoy the look ahead feature, not to mention the clock being set by the Sirius Sats and of course having a signal strength indicator is killer too.

I am looking forward to your pictures.

I was taking some video for some jobs I was estimating. Eating lunch under a car garage I set up my camera and thought I'd go through some of the features. I was surprised I still got a bar of reception.

I also received several calls while eating lunch and flippin' through features so if you say to yourself "what the f is he doing" you know why.

Great. I've never had a problem with them. I've never had to return anything either but I've talked to them and find them very reputable.
