So wait...I'm confused. 360 bucks for a recording device??? I could burn a workday's worth of stuff onto cd's for about 5 bucks...great work once again, Sirius. I've been a sub. since May '03 and am constantly dissapointed with them.

So you don't mind carrying a portable CD player with you to the gym or out jogging? The S50 might not be for everyone, but come on there are some things that are required to be small. Also how many people want to bother with all the hoops you have to jump through just to record what you want off of Sirius? Making it easy and integrated has value.

If you see no value in it then don't buy it? This isn't rocket science. If you have been disappointed with SIRIUS all this time then shame on you. I on the other had have had a variety of SIRIUS equipment and I can honestly say I never NEVER been disappointed. In fact I have always felt SIRIUS equipment for all the little convenience features were head of the game over XM. I also have a real thing about displays and SIRIUS has always had better displays.

Default S50 Deception

It looks great, but iprefer to listen a live content, that a prerecorded program. i think that this is an Mp3 player , we have waited so much time for a portable receiver that can be used anywhere, in the car home or on the go. i think that Sirius is later to offer a real portable receiver. i prefer to wait for something that works for the purpose that i need a "PORTABLE SATELLITE RECEIVER" and if it offers aditional functions like program recorder. great

just a quick thought on sirius not having a true portable out..... could the signal strength from the satellites affect this? is xm's signal from their sats stronger?

Yes, I think XM's sats do provide for a bit hotter signal, but not so much so that Sirius's sats won't get the job done. The key is the headphone/antenna setup for live reception. I don't think you'll see very many Sirius tuners with just a built in antenna as you have with XM. XM was able to pull this off with some degree with due to the large repeater network. But I think Sirius is trying to avoid the higher return rates as been suggested about the XM2GO units. Though I initally didn't think those rates were as high as some had suggested, I have since gotten info from a VERY reliable source that indicates I was wrong about that. Sirius clearly wants to avoid that and so their strategy appears to be some what different.

XM's original two satellites are defective and "dying", so to speak. They are only going to last about half as long as originally expected. The satellites were made by Boeing.

Sirius's satellites were manufactured by Loral, and are expected to achieve full life expectancy.

According to my sources, XM's most recent satellite was purchased from Loral, whom XM will be doing business with from now on.

So much for the naysayers who claim that Sirius can't do anything right. They darn sure made the right choice in satellite manufacturers.

Actually this is not totally accurate. The reason they sent their ground spare up was so that they could put the 2 defective sats side by side and turn the power down to each by half, which would allow them to get just about full life out of them. However, the ultimate plan is that they will be sending a 4th satellite into space, which will take the place of these two defective sats. When that happens these 2 defective sats will become spares in space because they will still have much life while sitting at standby.

However, I don't think that was Sox question.. He was talking about the signal strength on the ground as to which service had the hotter sats and the answer is XM.

Sirius sats are not without problems, they've had some circuit failures, but nothing that should dramatically reduce their life as with the solar reflectors on the XM sats.

However, lets keep this on topic, this is about the S50, not XM or SIRIUS's satellites. Thanks...

Sirius Sats will do just fine with a portable tuner, but it would require a headphone/antenna setup to get outdoor reception. Indoor reception would only be available in a home cradle kit where the home antenna was outdoors or at least pointed in the right direction on a window seal.

2 points. We were told in our meetings that it will keep recorded 4 hours of the listeners 3 most listened to channels. Whether or not it is continually recording those channels was not specified, but to keep a constant 4 hours on all 3 I would think that it records all 3 at the same time. The exact phrase used was "it will keep the last 4 hours of your 3 favorite channels in the record bank."

Second point, off topic. It's not worth getting in a pissing match about the satellite stregnth. XM's are giving a more powerful signal because they must to match apples to apples. With the orbital difference, XM's sats have to send the signal a much farther distance. Hence needing more power to accomplish that with the same signal stregnth on the ground. The repeater network is really why the Sirius won't work as well. It simply isn't worth losing a customer for life because of putting out a product that simply doesn't deliver what it promises. It's great to sit back and play Monday Morning CEO, but if it was your company, money and reputation, I bet there would be no complaining.

I strongly suggest you check your facts, then correct your post.

The following from getsiriusinfo.com...

"I have talked to some sources that tell me that the S50 will be out very soon, earlier then first reported by Sirius. I do want to stress that this is nothing official but, it looks very likely that the new S50 Mp3 Player/Sirius radio will be out by October, or very early October. The MSRP is also something that might change, a lower MSRP is something that I'm hearing. Look for some info on the S50 to hit Sirius.com in a week or two.. Talk of a package deal (getting home/car/wearable kits with radio) is also flying around."

A lower price would be great, and an earlier release date is always better. A wearable kit would be GREAT!

Well no one said you HAVE to buy it. But some of us don't see it as just an MP3 player. It can pick up live reception when used at home or on the road in your auto. Then at other times when you are on the go, want to sit on your couch, listen at your desk, lay in your bed or whatever Ect. You don't have to worry about reception, you just simply plug it into your speaker system, boombox or use headphones. I don't know of any MP3's players that will allow me to record up to 3 of my favorite channels, along with scheduling certain programs to be recorded in such a convenient manner as the S50. I am not about to jump through hoops to record live sat radio on an MP3 player, but the S50 gives me the option to do just that, along with copying some of my favorite MP3's. Besides even if you did jump through hoops to record live sat radio, you won't be able to fast forward or rewind song by song Etc. It is all about convenience, just set the scheduling and walk away or go to bed. When you wake up its ready to go. Let me see you do that with an MP3 player. I think these comments are totally without merit and give a good indication that the person making them have very little insight into this product, no offense of course.
