It's not meant as a personal attack or anything; if this is something you want, that's great. Buy it and be happy. I was only speaking a personal opinion.

Yes, but generally opinions are based in some sort of fact, clearly yours is not. That is the bottom line. You are welcome to your opinion, but I disagree for the various reasons I stated. Clearly this is more than an MP3 player.. when is the last time you seen an MP3 player pick up sat radio in your home or auto and have the built in ability to record sat radio rather scheduled or at the push of a button?

I think the point I'm trying to make (sorry if I've been poorly stating my case) is that I already have car and home receivers...so, basically, I'd be paying 360$ for an MP3 player (ease of use notwithstanding). If you don't have a car or home dock, this might make sense.

I can agree that for someone that already have a PNP with home and car docks the S-50 may not be that appealing, unless they also want portability with a single subscription. But this still does not make your case that it is nothing more than an MP3 player. You have not countered a single one of my comments. This product was designed primarily for new subscribers, though there are existing subscriber such as myself that will more than likely get one for the portability aspect. There are several programs on Sat Radio that folks enjoy and may want to be able to listen to at their convenience and again I don't want to jump through hoops in order to do this. To say that because I already have a tuner with a home and car cradle therefore the S50 is nothing more than an MP3 player is nonsense. The fact is you simply have nothing to counter my comments. Also just because you see no value in the S50, doesn't relegate it to an MP3 player, so in my opinion and based on the fact at hand you are simply incorrect.

By the way, there will be people that will sell their existing equipment in order to go this route because it gives you home, auto and portability options, along with 50 hours of content that can be listened to anywhere at anytime. They also don't have to worry about live reception, yet they still get to listen to satellite radio programming, ALL WITH A SINGLE SUBSCRIPTION. Show me an MP3 Player than can do all that and I'll concede you as correct otherwise, this isn't just a "glorified MP3 player".

Ok, you win *does sommersault* YAY Sirius! Maybe I'm just angry about the PNP1 planned obsolescence, overheating problems, limited playlists, DJ's talking over half the song, censoring music on supposedly uncensored channels...but actually, you're probably right about this being a good all-in-one for new subs. Don't get me wrong...I'm not a Sirius hater: I've been a sub. for over a year and a half now. I've also been an XM sub for about a year, and generally, just my opinion, XM has superior hardware (no overheating problems there, and *gasp* backwards compatibility). All I'm saying is: wait until this thing is actually released before you say it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Well I am sorry that in other areas of the service that you aren't satisfied, but the censorship thing is totally being overblown, I'll agree some DJ's will talk over the beginning or ending of songs, repeats are a problem on some channels. In regards to the older generation tuners being obsolete that isn't true either, they will continue to work as always. I had a PNP1 for a year before I sold it for a newer 2.5g tuner. Sat Radio is in its infancy and these tuners are going to continue to evolve. That is the nature of the beast, but again that doesn't make the one you have obsolete at all. It will continue to provide service as it does now. It sort of like saying because I have a 1998 Nissan that the 2006 makes it obsolete. The 2006 has a lot more features (navagation) and maybe even a newer engine that gets better gas mileage, but my 1998 still does the job.

Anyway... these things are for another topic in another forum. Lets keep this one on the S-50.

You're right about those being off-topic, so this will be my last post on this subject. What I meant about the PNP1 being obsolete wasn't refering to it still working or not, but to the rarity of the PNP1 boombox and corresponding accessories. Anyway, you seem like an intelligent well-spoken person. Have a good day.

Thanks a lot. I certainly enjoyed the very civil discussion. I appreciate your opinion and the manner in which you expressed them. You too have a good day!

It is all about convenience, just set the scheduling and walk away or go to bed. When you wake up its ready to go. Let me see you do that with an MP3 player.
The Time Trax software available for Sirius does allow you to do many of these things (convenient/simple scheduling, fast forward/rewind by song). It's still not quite as convenient as the S50, since you'll have to take the extra step of transferring your Time Trax recorded mp3 files to your mp3 player. Going this route also doesn't allow you the option of live satellite reception in the car (home is covered, and recorded portable content is covered), which is another plus for the S50. You would need a seperate car tuner and Sirius subscription for that functionality, which is an additional monthly cost that would be avoided with the S50. However, if portability is your main concern and you already own an mp3 player, the Time Trax solution is a pretty good alternative to the S50.

You know, I am betting that Sirius will come up with some kind of portable antenna for the S50.

Also, I can see one huge advantage to getting this. There are some songs (mostly remixes on The Beat) that I just plain cannot find anywhere whether it be on a CD or P2P, I would definitely love to be able to record them and play them back whenever I wanted.

Now, if Sirius wants to pull off a nice little coup and get ahead of XM in terms of coverage, they need to secure a deal with WMATA (Washington DC Metro) to put repeaters down in the subway tunnels, especially if they decide to release a portable radio later. Verizon pretty much has a lock on cell phone coverage in the tunnels, maybe Sirius should do it for satellite radio.
