Yes, an antenna on the roof is advisable. Some place it on the dash but you will get more dropouts with that configuration.
Is there a specific antenna I need to order? Can you provide a link to recommended accessories I need? Thanks!
The S50 will come with a car kit that includes the antenna you need.

What type of battery does the S50 use? Will the home kit and Car Kit recharge the battery when docked?

It is showing out of stock. One can reserve the S 50. Maby Crutchfield will add more info when in stock.

If there is an FM transmitter, it it would most likely be in the cradle.

Default presets?

I apologize if this has been asked, but I was having trouble using the search function in such a long thread. Are there preset buttons on this receiver? There don't appear to be, which could make this really tough to use in the car.

Read the first post in this thread. There are 30 presets:

Quote:
The radio also includes 30 channel presets; a jump button for one-touch tuning to traffic and weather reports or to a favorite SIRIUS channel; a sports ticker that flashes personalized sports scores; and a “Game Alert” feature which prompts when the user’s favorite NFL, NHL, NBA, or other sports teams are playing on SIRIUS.

Default s50 release date????

i was just on crutchfield and seen they have the s50 listed, but they are saying:

"Expected: 11/14/2005"
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-MYYJdCL...47350&I=607S50

then on thesiriusstore.com they are saying "Monday 17 October, 2005."
http://www.thesiriusstore.com/produc...ame=sirius-s50

Just wondering if anyone has heard if they are delaying it until 11/14 or is crutchfield just wrong... I hope they are.

While there are 30 presets available, it doesn't look like there are any preset buttons on the tuner or cradle. It looks like there's a dial on the cradle, which might allow you to scroll through your presets while in "preset tuning mode," which is a feature the current crop of tuners have. There was also something mentioned in the S50 details on sirius.com about "audio assisted navigation," so maybe it uses voice recognition to allow you to go to a particular station without needing the preset buttons.

We are in the process of changing the way our site gives these dates. It only allows us to say it will be in on so and so date. The dates from ANY STORE is almost always an estimate. Why is that the case? Well, the dates from the manufacturer gives is an estimate and then it has a trickle effect.

In any case. The S50 will come out Mid Oct. That is a given. Who gets it may be up in the air. Best Buy, Circuit City and Tweeter May get them first, but also it may take longer for it to flow thru all of their distribution channels. Also the S50 will be very limited in the month of Oct. If yours is not paid for, buy it now if you can.

The S50 certainly was/is being handled in a different way than The Sportster Replay and The Starmate Replay. Sirius seems to be running the show on this one. Their biggest accts may be given the best cards here. We are trying to be as honest as possible with the S50. We may get it first, we might not. Again, our price will be the lowest possible advertised price we are allowed. Also if you have paid for an S50 from us, which is highly recommended to get the first batch, and you find a local Best Buy carrying it early then feel free to let us know and we will refund your money.

When the month of Oct ends, the dust should settle a bit and the S50 should be readily available by all thru the Holiday season.

And again, any online store will post mostly estimates for release dates. Look back and you will find small stores to large stores giving bad release dates. If that was the info they were supplied then it was up to them to determine whether or not to go with it.

Regards,
Taylor Mitchell

Exactly. That's what I was looking for. I did read the first post in the thread, but since there don't appear to be buttons it is confusing. I think it will be somewhat difficult to jump around if you have to use a dial on the radio. The voice recognition feature will be interesting, though.
