True...I was just going on your numbers though:

"But your point is really moot because the Sirius Chipset is in the S50 NOT the cradle. Without the S50 the cradle is useless....."
Exactly--but you HAVE to have the cradle to record since you can't record with the S50 itself...so why on earth design this by putting the chipset in the S50 instead of the base?? Heck, chipsets are evidently cheap given the low prices of some of these other units.

Anyway, I agree that the idea would not work with the current design--I am not even arguing that point though. However, I am calling into question the design its self and saying it is not well thought out. If you want to record programs during the day when you are at work, that's over 1/3 of the day when you can not 'take the portable unit' with you--and another 1/3 when you might have the unit with you and can not record (that's supposed to be it's main feature after all remember...portability). That's just a far from optimal design. For the kind of price we are talking about, someone should have thought about this a bit further.

It all boils down to opinion. I think the current design will work perfectly for most people. No one wants to have to pay for mulitple subscription for a single unit, which is the case if you put the chipset in the cradle kits.

I'll hold judgement on how well thought out this unit is until I get one in my hands and start using it. Its sort of like the Starmate Replay, I can't get over all the little extras that tuner has, things you wouldn't even know about until you actually use it. I suspect there are goodies like that on the S50. But apparently your beef is the basic design and I am afraid there isn't anything to be done about that.

So let me see if I got this right, if I take the S50 to work and the gym with me to listen to recorded content, then there will be nothing at home in the dock (I understood this part), but then I will only be able to record shows when the S50 is in the cradle? Makes sense to me, I just didn't realize this. So then this really wouldn't work for me at all, how would I be able to record the content that I wanted during the day if I had taken the unit to work with me? This all sounds a little backwards to me.

Sounds correct to me.

This is why everyone will need to evaluate the way they intend to use such a device to see if it will work for them. Clearly it isn't going to work for everyone. This also makes the case for live reception on the go, but then there is the reception issue. Unfortunately there is no perfect solution at this time. I have some of those same limitations with my XM2GO tuner as well and it does do live reception, but not everywhere.

Fortunately I am mainly getting mine for recording music and for that it works GREAT. For Stern or other live programs, not so good.

Default S50 delivery date?

I know that it is extremely dangerous to guess about Sirius related products date release...let's start with that reality.

Color Match Antenna says the release is a little before October 17--I've pre ordered both the S50 and the home kit. Here's to hoping they are right...that would mean release in the next 10 days or so...

Has anyone heard anything? (Official that is...)

So then is there even a live wearable device in the works? I understand no one can say when such a device would be released. But is anyone aware if such a device is actually being worked on, or is something like this a long way off?

My plan is to buy an additional home dock (a little pricey), for work to use with my mini-stereo aux. I work where there is a strong repeater nearby. It can continue recording as scheduled. I can then record Howard's west coast feed (Ch. 101) 9:00a.m. till whenever and playback
when work conditions apply and on my drive home. Not the perfect solution, but it is an acceptable workaround, considering every thing else the S50 has to offer.

I've asked this in another thread, but does anyone know if the PC playlist software for the S50 is Mac compatible or will be in the future. If the S50 is meant to be an I-Pod (Apple) competitor, then shouldn't the software work with Windows and Mac computers. Is it only me, or aren't there alot
of Mac Addicts out there. Thanx for the forum.

I read that it is for PC only at this point. I would imagine that they would be working on a Mac version, but you might want to check.

The Rego is apparently a go as it showed up recently via Walmart Online. It was suppose to provide live reception as well as be a recordable. It was delayed several times, but I am thinking its been retro fitted with the new 3.0g chipset.

The Shadow, that is the only solution right now is to invest in another home kit, but of course that won't work for everyone because of reception issues. Most don't have repeaters unforunately.

The Software will be released for Windows 2000 and XM. I am not sure if they are working on a Mac version or not, but hopefully they are.

Thanks for the info, but I would not consider the Rego because of the huge headphones that are required to act as the antenna. I never heard of the Shadow, who makes that?

What about the future, have you heard if there are any plans to make a live portable unit?

Did anyone notice that the S50 is outselling 6 other current products at Crutchfield? http://tinyurl.com/d6zpx

Well, to get the best reception you will have to wear those unfortunately. XM saw the error in not including them with the XM2GO units, they did have built antennas and little clip on ones but they didn't do much good.

Oh, I am surprised to hear that because my portable XM unit works fine here in NY with my regular headphones.

You've probably got a repeater there.
