Awesome, this one is really tough to beat. Hope they are making enough of them to keep up with the demand.

This looks like a damn nice unit!!! Nice job Sirius!!!

Can't wait for it to hit shelves.

Only question is who makes it? If it's DEI (Directed Electronics), it will be a top-shelf unit.

Looking forward to selling it this holiday season. Please don't ruin it by pushing back the release date past the holidays.

It looks cool, but I'm a little disappointed. I don't really care about a true portable myself, but I know a lot of people do and I can't believe that Sirius can't deliver one a year after XM has one.

A lot of new subs are going to want to be able to listen to Stern live while they take public transportation to work. XM is clearly still beating us in technology. I think their portability trumps our color screen.

Guess you'll still be waiting for a MyFi like device. Maybe next year, when the MyFi 2 is out.

This is really nothing new. Once again XM beats you to the punch with the announcement.

And before you misinformed SIRI fanboys start: this is NOT a competitor to the MyFi. The MyFi is a portable XM receiver radio. This is a glorified MP3 player. This model should be compared to the XM/Samsung units on price, features, size, etc...

I can't wait until Dell & XM announce a true portable MP3 player / satellite radio. That will destroy any hype this device might get.

Another one for the good guys.
As harsh as these comments are, they do bring up 2 valid points:

1) The S50 is more comparable to the Samsung mp3/XM combo unit coming out later this year than it is to the MyFi. Not many details are available on the Samsung/XM tuner, but the basic functionality seems to be similar to the S50.

2) We still don't have a portable tuner for Sirius that can receive live satellite content on the go (maybe the XTR1 with power pod, but it's not really very portable). This is what really differentiates the MyFi from any other portables available today or currently announced for future release. Hopefully, an announcement for such a product from Sirius will come later today.

and we are certain that this is a true live wearable?
(i.e. no battery cradle, plays live stream when portable)

/as an aside, im a long time lurker- have been a shareholder and sub since 2000

No, I love the color display and 50 hours of recording versus 5 or 6 for the MyFi. Also, I don't see it as a huge disadvantage at all. Stern will replay all day so you can record it the night before and listen on the way to work. It may not be live, but it is certainly close. Also, as far as wanting to listen to Stern live on the way to work on a portable; the MyFi has huge reception problems when listening live and I highly doubt a similar device would be that great of an advantage unless you are standing perfectly still. I would venture a guess that most people, like myself, who own a MyFi use it for recording content to listen to later. I know that's all I ever use mine for. The live signal is no good unless you are completely stationary.

Default ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME

Finally Sirius has something, but someone said on an earlier post that XM might be beating them to punch anyway w/ another portable anouncment. Maybe someone knows something on that.

But the pricing on this is a little steep!!! You're looking at $500 for a portable and stand!! COME ON Sirius!!! This is a joke right?

No -- from what I've read, you can record up to 50 hours of content in a dock, then take it on the go. No live reception out of a dock.

Very nice looking from the photos. However, this will be the competition to the XM Samsung. I guess the live receiving portable will be in 2006. This unit will be attractive to many potential buyers, but a live receiver would be better.

Looking forward to reading the SBS hands on review (with photos)!

But for a 50 hour memory and a color screen display, I don't mind. (I've got my $500 in my hand and will gladly hand it over to Sirius today for one of these babies! Psst.... I'll give you $600 to slip me one early )

I think the big news here is not only the size, but the COLOR display! XM doesn't have anything close to the capabilities this display holds. In fact, there are rumors of album art being displayed in the future...
