Sorry, I guess I should reword my question a bit. Does the car dock include the ability to play live content or can live content only be played while connected to the home dock?

You you can get live reception in the home dock or the car dock and as I said I suspect you'll also be able to get live reception in the Executive Docking Station though I can't confirm that at this time.

In a way that doesn't make sense. The receiver is in the home base. If you had a home base and one in an EDS...that would necessitate two subscriptions wouldn't it?

I say that because someone called me on the carpet for saying the design was a bit inept for the S50 in that the receiver SHOULD have been built into the S50 itself instead of the base.

The radio ID is what requires the subscription. The radio ID is in the S50 and the base unit(car or home) is just the means to which it can receive a signal. I guess that means there could be a portable live dock kit in the future. It's certainly within the realm of possibility.

You and I in a way already had this conversation back when you said the chipset should have been in the docking kits so that it would record while you had the portable portion with you. It was then that it was explained that the chipset is actually in the S50 and it that portion that you must get activated/subscribed. The home dock, car dock and my opinion EDS has other electronics that will give you the ability to record and play the tuner live. But NO the EDS wouldn't require another subscription anymore than the car or home dock would. You'll be able to buy extra home and car kits, do you think those too would require extra subscriptions?

Doing it the way you had proposed allowing the cradle kits to record without the S50 would indeed require separate subscriptions because each one of them would have to be activated to receive the signal because they would contain the portion of the electronics (chipset) that is activated/subscribed.

Even more excited now about the S50. I found out that jjielectronics will ship for free (overnight) anyone who orders the S50 from them. Plus the $50.00 rebate. Can't wait any longer!

I've had a JVC unit for the past year that I move between the car and the house. I usually listen to the music through the internet feed but can't listen to the NFL that way. I do not have a window at work and I work in a tall building. I can get the FM signal but not the AM. Not sure if that's even relevant. Does anyone know if I'll be able to get the feed using S50 and the cradle in my office? From what I have read there is no antenna necessary so I'm thinking it should work. Can you listen to one thing and record another? Thanks.

that it theory would require two tuners (just like dual tuner dvr). I've seen no mention of that as of yet.

It automatically records 3 of your favorite stations, so yes.

Am I the only one who thinks this makes no sense?

It's portable so you could listed to stuff that you "prerecorded". but it only comes with the car dock.
When are you going to "prerecord" stuff. If it's in the car it's only on while YOUR IN THE CAR listening to it.
The "portability" only becomes relevent if you shell out another $100 for the home dock.
STUPID. It should COME WITH the home dock OR the car dock.
What a scam.
I want it to record Stern and listen to it on the train to work. I can't do it without buying the home dock and throwing away the usless car dock. (I allready have a unit in my car.

Am I wrong on any of my facts here?

So does everyone agree that you need the home dock to record with?

I already have a unit that has a car adapter, boom box, and home adapter. When I get the S50, I am giving the older one to my wife.

But if I'm not going to be able to record while in the car, I'm going to end up having 2 home units.

You'll be able to record with the car kit.
