Default WOW.... I think you just broke the rules of conduct...

How very childish of an admin to make a personal attack post on the forums! Not very impressive. Don't be upset because I told the truth about the new useless toy that you no doubt get for free.

Here's a comment that you should hear fairly often.

LACKEY.

Lord

Lol, I really really wish I got it for free. Perhaps I was a bit to harsh, time will tell.

You are clearly upset that the S50 is not a portable, but Sirius has a very good reason for not making it one. Returns. The XM2GO units reportedly had as high as a 40% return rate across the nation. Why? Poor live reception. Granted, they have released headphones with built-in antennas that do improve the signal a bit. But, Sirius' on the go reception would be worse than XM in areas without a repeater with a higher return rate probably. Until Sirius increase repeater coverage and/or launches another satellite I think they chose the right thing.

Default I totally agree with you.

Now we are speaking in the right context.

All that I am saying is that in order for Sirius to make a claim to a truly portable receiver, they should make it a receiver that is capable of getting content while not wired into an expensive dock at home or at work or anywhere at all for that matter.

The technology is available. MiFi made that abundantly clear. Sirius just needs to become the leader of the pack not only in programming (which they already have), but also in the area of listening hardware technology and signal availability.

I don't want anyone who is viewing this post to miss the points that I made before. They are an important explanation of the reality behind this product, and the inexpensive alternatives that are available to those who are technologicaly savvy and who understand that Sirius has fallen short of the mark in an effort to play catch up with XM. You can see what I am talking about here on page 39 of the posts to this thread.

See you on the radio, and BABABOOEY TO Y'ALL! :P

Yours Truly,

Lord

Look what was even said about the XM products in Forbes "If you're desperate for walkabout live listening, try the bulkier SatelliteRadio portables from Tao and Pioneer. They can pick up a live ballgame from space, but, since the human body interferes with satellite signals, they all too often drop out in the middle of a base hit or song."

I for one applaud SIRIUS for coming out with a unit that does not due live portable reception. It would of been very easy for them to due it but they realized that it would not live-up to customers expectations so they made the S50 instead. Who needs live reception all the time anyways? Last time I checked my Ipod can not get live reception anywere any people still seem to buy them.

Can everyone stop with the percentage of returns for the myfi, there is no hard evidence on anything about returns, at all. I just love how the number keeps going up, first it was 30% now its 40% do i hear 50% mabey its 60% could be 70%. Why dont we say that the myfi just doesnt sell at all, thats right no one is buying them. Now does that seem fair? No disrespect to the forum or sirius but it drives me up a wall when people say something like a return percentage and it just keeps going up. However I will say that the guy who was ticked because it wasnt live on the go was a little over the top. I personaly am very interested in the s50 and cant wait to see what it looks like, in the pictures it looks very sharp, I do think its shame it cant do live on the go stuff but this is a step in the right direction for sirius.

True portable? How long has FM been around, because I still have trouble getting a clear FM signal from a portable radio. Until there is a repeater on every block (thats an attempt to be sarcastic) there will never be a reliable portable Sirius radio. I will be getting the S50 as soon as it does become available (hopefully not the week of the 22nd, I won't have time for 2 new toys in one week!)

I think one can believe store managers, like DAB said somewhere earlier they have no reason to lie. In certain stores it may have been as high as 50-60%.

That is correct these store managers and regional managers have no reason whatsoever to make up these numbers. But I will say that the numbers I was told was more like 30% to 35% on the return rate on the Myfi when it was first released. It took XM almost 9 month to finally figure out that they needed to release the headphone/antenna and then even later the new ClipXT antenna. So the point is that SIRUS didn't want to repeat this issue.

So, baddog992 the truth is the truth and XM can't hide from it though I know they would like too.

I don't know about other users, I can only speak for myself. But I am not about to jump through hoops to record Sirius. The S50 makes it very easy to be able to record Sirius. By the way Dork, I am in hotel rooms sometimes for 3 or 4 days at a time. The Live XM2GO tuners quickly become pretty darn useless to me since I can't get live reception. But with a little planning the S50 will give me enough tunes that I'll be able to have music while I am there for the full 3 or 4 days.

The S50 won't be for everyone, but to say its a terrible design... well that is just wishful thinking on the Dork's part. Sales of this product will prove you wrong many times over. I think SIRIUS will eventually come out with a tuner that will provide for live reception, but coming out with this type device for was the correct move in my opinion. I flat out enjoy my Pioneer Airware, but the truth is there are many locations that its useless for live reception and without the recorded content I wouldn't have anything to listen too at all, so having 50hrs vs 5 hrs is going to be GREAT for me.

How many of these 30-35% returned units just get repackaged, and resold to someone who keeps it? I'm sure they are selling because the truth is (and I do have one) if it drops out, you turn around 10 degrees, and sure enough you actually are listening live and that is an advantage over the S50. I guess this guy has a problem with the way Sirius is marketing it and I don't see that. They aren't really hiding that fact that it's not an on-the-go sat radio... they are just touting the MP3 features more, which a MyFi doesn't do at all.

It's good to have options!

And the great thing about the S50 that was sold on Ebay is that it is shipped via Parcel Post, so it won't arrive for another 3 weeks, perhaps before Christmas.

While I believe that there may have been a high return rate on XM's portable unit initially I wouldn't base it on store managers claims. They may have no reason to lie, but they do not always tend to have hard numbers before them when they speak. Having worked in retail for years I cannot count the number of times our store managers gave out an explanation for something based on information that they believed was true but they had no information to back it up. We all can relate to the fact that sometimes the big bosses do not have a clue when it comes to certain issues. Also I would be curious what the overall return rate is for all of XM's radios initially. How many returning the portable units were simply returning because at that time they couldn't see a reason to pay for radio? And what is the return rate now that XM is offering the headphones and clip-it antenna?

I think what upsets alot of people is that if they buy this unit now and then Sirius does begin to offer a true live portable unit in 6-9 months they have to buy another unit again. I personally think Sirius should have made the S50 as it is with the abitilty for live reception. This way people who could not get on the go recepetion would have the recorded content, and people who lived near repeaters or in suburban areas may have been able to their live radio. The unit is $279 now with the MIR, I know I would have paid more if it had this ability.

You know what's funny. NO ONE has thought about that MAYBE they have an attachment IN THE WORKS that allows this unit to broadcast live programing? As in, when they can figure out how to actually make one that works, put it out there as another docking station type product, and you have a winner. Probably need to figure out how to make the entire length of the headphones an antenna.
