That's true... I've wondered that myself about the NeXus and Dell DJ for XM-- since they are "connect and play" ready, why not make a "connect and play" headphone with antenna and viola... live capability on the road. No reason Sirius can't do that I suppose. As much as I've heard about their chipsets being more complex etc. just means they need to overcome it, not that they can't.

I think you're right...

Probably need to figure out how to make the entire length of the headphones an antenna.
Some guy called us and asked if he could get power to the home dock then perhaps he could use the S50 as a live receiver on the train into work in NYC. I told him to go to the getsiriusinfo site to look at the description of the homemade portable Damian had on there. I wonder? Hmm.

Make the home kit dock portable.

It might be easier to make the car dock portable since it's smaller.

All this setup needs is a small attachment that can be powered by the unit itsself and we have a winner. No reason this won't be available within 6 months of this things release (which means years from now )

Intergrate the antenna into the headphones and KEEP IT REALISTIC! The XM CRAP that everyone big mouths about sirius not having is HARDLY worth switching providers over. The live broadcast is spotty AT BEST and they look HORRIBLE.

S50 all the way baby.

Obviously the big hurdle would be battery life. Currently, Sirius tuners need too much juice.

So the rumors are FLYING about when the S-50 will be delivered--Ryan, or anyone, have you heard something concrete?? Are they to be in stores the end of next week or later? im assuming they will be all delivered BEFORE Thanksgiving?(better be for sirius sake)

You know what's REALLY funny? EVERYONE thought that Sirius would have thought of this in the FIRST PLACE.

Just what we need. Another huge attachment to add power and reception. It's already a pretty big unit. After all of those attachments, it will be as big as the "Portable" XTR1. Remember, you are talking about a huge battery pack, a large antenna, a housing to hold it all... and another 150 bucks to buy the "portable" kit for a unit that was supposed to be portable in the first place. The XTR1 was a failure as a "portable" unit once all of the attachments and belt clip turned it into a monstrosity the size of a brick.

Besides, dreaming up what they are doing in development departments at Sirius is mere speculation, and takes everyone off track of the subject matter. "What-if"s and rumors are a huge waste of time. You lost me at "MAYBE".

I also was not impressed with Sirius plugging this device as a "Portable RECEIVER". This is where the language is deception. It is not a "receiver" at all. It is a key/storage device/MP3 player that docks to a receiver. I also am concerned with the fact that they have manged to put 40+ hours of content onto 1 GIG of memory. This only tells me that the bitrate is poor at best.

I went to Circuit City today and bought an XTR2 for $49.99 after rebate http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ...oid=120414&c=1 and a home docking station for $49.99 http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ...oid=120413&c=1 after price match with Fry's. The XTR2 will do nicely for streaming audio to my PC, as it has audio out jacks. With a minipin splitter, I will be able to run it to both my soundcard and my PC speakers. This will do nicely for monitoring while I am recording. I will probably buy another one of these units in order to have one permanently in my car (it already comes with a car kit) and the other one permanently in my home. In the end, I will be out the door of Circuit City after spending only $150.00.

Let me repeat that. $150.00.

Yours Truly,

Lord

and you KEEP harping on how XM has one YET DON'T ADMIT THAT THEY ARE SKETCHY AT BEST. These are GUINNA PIG PRODUCTS. You are paying to test a unproven technology.

The ONLY people backing the XM portables are people that CAN'T AFFORD EITHER and just like to be BIGMOUTHS on line.

Oh ME ME ME ME!!!!!! USE ME AS A TESTER!!!!

XM's portables are the equivalent to installing a RECORD PLAYER IN YOUR CAR.

It's available,it sucks, and I wouldn't recommend it.

So, in your opinion, it's better to rush out unproven technology JUST CAUSE instead of perfecting it first THEN releasing it.

You must work for Sony.

How do you figure about the reception. I live in the of Toledo, Ohio and work on the Third floor WITHOUT any windows by me and get perfect reception. I have been in hotels in Fort Wayne, IN, Erie, PA, Southfield, MI, and Dayton, OH and have never had a problem with getting live reception. Granted once in a while there are reception problems for split seconds, but it is not nearly as bad you many of you percieve. Plus, you all get so mad about the lack of reception in places like hotels but say the S50 would be better suited for these situations. How? Can you not record on the MyFi too. The myFi has a home dock just like the S50 and can do essentially the same things except MyFi has live recording and S50 has MUCH more time allotment for recording.

I am both an XM and Sirius subscriber, and I know we all have brand loyalty. I love my XM for O&A, and Sirius for Octane, so I try to call foul when I see it. The MyFi is a great reciever and an excellent first-gen device. I am hoping for a great first-gen reciever from Sirius.

Trust me. Once they hook up with Sprint and they fill the areas with repeaters thanks THEN they'll release the live portable and it will work the sh*t.
