Default Final post regarding alternatives.

This will be my final post regarding an alternative to the S50.

Using one of these units at home and one in the car, and using my hard drive to record, I am now totally set up. This unit is on sale for $19.99 after rebate at Circuit City.

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/SIRIU...oductDetail.do

I got two of these. It cost me $40.00 total for two receivers, and $50.00 for one home kit. I am now set for hardware after spending only $90.00.

See my former posts on pages 39 and 42 to see my hardware configuration.

Yours Truly,

Lord.[/url]

Default Chicago Area

I checked the Best Buy in Countryside, IL (western suburbs of Chicago) and was told they didn't expect the S50 until "around Christmas." Hopefully someone else can provide better news that the S50 will be available in Chicagoland before that.

Sirius is doing the cabbage patch formula from the 80s! Instead of angry mothers fighting for dolls gonna have bunch of angry men fighting for em huh?

It's a conspiracy!

Not to egg you on, but with your setup of 2 recievers, aren't you now forced to pay for 2 subscriptions each month?

Okay guys this thread isn't about ways of getting around buying an S50. If you want to discuss that then please create another thread. This one is about the S50 so lets stay on topic.

I'm another lemming about to dive into the Sirius bandwagon in the name of Howard Stern. I have a feeling I will end up liking it for much more than that though. So anyway, I'm trying to do the research and figure out which equipment I want to buy, etc.

I should probably go with something like the Starmate Replay because it is a much more reasonable price yet it's still very small and sleek looking.

However, I am very tempted by the S50. Part of me just wants to go for it because it would be nice to have the mp3 playing ability as well as the ability to record several hours of programming. Plus, it looks really high tech and sleek as well! It's quite a costly investment though so I really need to think about it carefully.

One question that I still have is about the setup after I get the equipment. Am I going to have to fork out additional money just to get this thing professionally installed in my car? If it involves a bunch of wiring and drilling of holes then there's no way I am doing it myself. What's that gonna cost me on top of everything else!???

first person I heard admit to being a lemming....

If you're going to go the professional installation route in you're car it should cost you around $75.00 or so. Now if they hardwire the powersupply into your car it will cost you more. Shop around.

Hardwire the power supply into the car as opposed to doing what?

What are the pros and cons of doing that versus not doing that?

I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet or not but...

Since the S50 only comes with the car kit and the home kit won't be available ‘til at least a week after the S50 is out, how would one record content? I mean I know you can record stuff while it's in the car but you'd just be recording/playing back stuff you already heard. I would like to be able to stick the S50 somewhere and let it 'S50' (if TiVo can be used as a verb so can the S50) content for me for when I go to work/go out/... .

So I'm basically I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to record from home right out of the box to hold me over until the home kit comes out.

You just need to purchase a 1000 mAh AC to DC Cig Adapter. This will allow you to run the car adapter kit. You'd just need to get the antenna in a location where it can get a signal. Record till your hearts content.

Hardwire the powersupply as opposed to the quick and dirty route of just plugging it into the cigarette lighter socket. Hardwiring (usually via a fusetap) makes for a cleaner looking, but more complicated installation. The cigarette lighter adapter is quicker to install and just as quick to remove.

To keep on topic, a CSR told me on Saturday that the S50 would be keeping to the Tuesday release date. I visited the Huntington, NY Best Buy but no demo unit. They had the display placard, but no unit.

Default Record what you're not listening to?

Can the S50 record music you're not currently tuned in and listening to?

For example I'm commuting to work in my car, with it docked, listening to Radio 1.

Can it record 60 minutes of First Wave at the same time?

Really. So what you are saying is that IF I'm listening to HOWARD LIVE I can record another station? Or is it more like TIVO or REPLAYTV where you can RECORD if you are listening to a RECORDED broadcast.
