I went to BB earlier this week and saw the unit, but it was locked down in some animated demo mode. Are the demo units specially flashed to do just that or can they be unlocked so you can get a good look around?

Again, it depends on your local BB. Some put it in the demo mode, whereas my BB had it set up in regular play mode. I scrolled through and listened to dozens of the channels, and it sounded excellent.

Reception was great, and they were only using a standard car magnet-antenna placed about a foot above my head.

Please elaborate.

Are you saying the S50 doesn't exist in reality?

There is a fully operational demo unit at my local Best Buy. They are expecting a shipment of S50's any day now.
Easy there...I was just being funny. I apologize for not using an emoticon!

It just seems with all this scattered information coming from retailers, RIAA rumors, Sirius pulling the ad from the front of their website, etc., the S50 was starting to sound like "vaporware". (or the ReGo)

And yes, I know they have demo units on the street. My Best Buy here has one and I have called or gone by there once or twice a day since last Saturday. Each time I call, I get a different answer.

"They will definitely be here on Tuesday" (that was Sunday's answer).

"Looks like Wednesday morning. Just be here when the store opens" (that was Tuesday's answer)

Last night I called first and got "yes, they're in stock" so I took off like mad to get there only to have a nitwit clerk open up a locked cabinet and stare into it like it was Al Capone's vault and he was Geraldo!).

I never talk to the same clerk anytime I call, by the way. I think they must have a couple hundred different clerks at every store. Last night I complained to the manager only to have him remind me that a lot of their staff is new for the holidays and they "just don't know everything yet". Thank God the airlines don't do this during the holidays. "This is your pilot Bill. He's pretty new, but he understands that up is GOOD and down is BAD!"

And before the Best Buy folks all flame the hell out of me, I know it's not perfect nor can it ever be. It just SEEMS like I can never find anyone working in these stores who knows anything about what they're selling. And I'm sure they would rather actually SELL something to customers who are standing there, than answer questions from pro-sumers like myself who call every day wanting to know when the latest gadget is going to arrive. (this concludes my Best Buy rant; and no matter how much I might rant here, I will still spend the majority of my disposable income in this store!)

Getting back on point, I decided to give Circuit City a shot last night and the guy I talked to there (who was clearly trying to "scare" me into pre-ordering one) tells me I can forget getting one ANYWHERE before the week before Christmas (he said if I would pre-order on the spot last night, he could guarantee me one on the 20th of December!)

Looks like it's going to be a long, cold winter...

Ok this is getting really ridiculous

Orbitcast now says

"Just gotten word that the reason why the S50 was taken down off of the Sirius homepage is because it's been sold out for the Holidays. So you all can turn that frown upside down."

So if its been sold out does that mean the stores are even going to get any and my HHGregg's computer is on crack or something? Im sick of the ups and downs today... lol

I almost get a funny feeling that one day it's gonna be - SURPRISE! - the stores will all have them - BB, CC, CMA, etc. Since NONE of the projected release dates have been accurate so far, why would that suddenly change? One day we'll wake up and see a bunch of posts stating " I HAVE MINE!". Wishful thinking? Perhaps!

New products as complicated as the S50 don't have quick ramp up times. I expect there will be product shortages on this device throughout the Holiday season, so anyone that really wants one better get in the pre-order queue.

I'm not upset in the least. I simply asked you to elaborate. There's certainly no need for you to apologize.

Not saying you're one of them, but the naysayers who are squawking about the S50 being vaporware are going to have egg on their face shortly.

The S50 WILL be in stores in plenty of time for Christmas. You can quote me on that.

Delays are very common in the consumer electronics and related industries. Mighty Sony has once again delayed the PS3, all the way to 2007. Microsoft has delayed just about every major platform they've ever introduced. Motorola has delayed their highly anticipated iRadio service for a few YEARS now.

Fully operational demos at BB and other stores prove that the S50 is not vaporware. So please forgive me if I don't get all worried about a delay of a few weeks on the S50.

Who do you think they're sold out to?! The stores!

Which means they will soon be available in stores!

Yeah I know. But with so much speculation and rumors..... it could be that the preorders are all taken with none to sell at the stores. One can only hope you are correct....
