Quite a few of the news sites I read are blasting the S50 already for not being as good as XM's offerings.

I don't much care as I have no use for a portable and I think alot of people who are first time satellite radio buyers will find out quickly how often you won't be able to recieve the signal and the majority of the "portable" craze will die down.

I see Sat Radio as a device for home and car.... my .02 cents

Portability is not that big of a deal for me, but it would be nice to listen to live content while walking around.
So you've been dying for Sirius to release...an mp3 player?
Actually, YES!!

.
Then let me congratulate you on your upcoming 1GB MP3 player that plays back Sirius programming!

BTW...why on earth could you not listen to Stern 'live' with headphones at work if that is so important to you? I use headphones at work so as not to disturb others and listen to all the objectional content I please.

For that matter, if live content isn't that important to you on the go and listening to Stern at work is, why didn't you just subscribe to Sirius, download the content online into an existing (or cheaper) MP3 player and take that to work? That would save you a bundle over getting the S50? If you can't' record direct from the website, Sirius should have done us all a favor and made it available.

Also, why the color screen...we are talking radio, right? Seems like an expensive waste of R&D that could have been spent on making this a portable receiver.

If I had a product that was superior to my competitor's, I wouldn't be trying to convince any and everyone that my competitor's product is inferior; unless I was worried that my product wasn't superior.

i think everyone is missing the big picture here. how much will it cost you to download 1700 of your favorite songs from napster or itunes? this allows you to not only download all your favorite songs for only $12.95 a month, but you can also download your favorite original programming. whether its on maxim, talk central, patriot, left/right, raw dog, or if you're rkturbo...outQ (sorry roomie, to easy), whatever your taste, record it and go. plus, if you get tired of the songs and content you have on there, just erase it and record more without the annoying $1 fees per song!
this is not marketed to compete with the xm2go products. i think sirius is doing the right thing which is take a back seat until sat rad is capable of delivering a true portible piece which actually works.
knock this piece all you want, just keep in mind xm will release a similar product by samsung around the same time.
for any sirius fan who doesnt like this piece, keep in mind it could be worse. the no talent ass clowns opus and arnold could be on sirius and howard stern, the king of all media could have signed with brand x. beyond xm...Sirius!

The $360 price on the S50 is just the MSRP. You will be able to get it considerably cheaper online.

The XM Pioneer AirWare unit has an MSRP of 300, but you can get it online for 25 to 30% less.

So you can look for a similar online discount with the S50. I'm betting you'll be able to get the S50 AND the home dock for about $360.

The S50 is clearly superior to the AirWare, with ten times more recording time. The S50 is undoubtedly the better unit for the money.

But if you want to listen live, it's not superior. That is the point. If listeniing to live broadcasts -- being able to change stations -- is important, then the S50 is not for you. If live reception is NOT important, then it is. The price point is absurd -- close to $500 for the unit, home and car kits? Big mistake.

As for the poster above that said that XM misadvertised by saying listen "anywhere", I do believe: (1) Sirius has a "Here2Anywhere" device, which in reality was limited to homoe or car docks -- not even a boombox, so that was a lie; (2) you can listen to a myfi anywhere, in some places with live reception and in some places recorded; and (3) calling the S50 a wearable device is misleadiing because it implies that it is a wearable sat radio -- it is a wearble MP3 player that can pick up sat radio from a DOCK and can replay it -- I guess Apple can call an iPod a "wearable nationwide radio" because you can download podcasts from across the nation.

I think the device is pretty neat, but I probably won't be getting it. I walk at lunch time in the winter months for an hour in Surprise Arizona, basically the desert, no trees and crystal clear blue skies. I want to listen to live Fox news, stock updates etc.. to hear what’s going on live! I was so hoping to find a live portable available Thursday. I'll still wait to see if the Rego will come out, or move over to XM which I really don't want to do because I already have a lifetime Sirius subscription for one of my vehicles. A friend of mine has the XM Pioneer model and has been pleased with it while walking so far.

What's more obsurd, is so many people that feel the need to inflate the MSRP just to make a point. Over on one of the xm fan sites, they had the thing bid up to $700. It was quite laughable.

For the record, it is $359 for car kit + $99 if you want a home kit. While it is pricey, it is a ground breaking product, and you pay for the best. It will come down in price over time just like all new fancy electronics do.

Nice bells and whistles, but still not a Walkman/MyFi type radio. Unfortunately, this looks like a profound waste of time.

I want to listen to Howard and LOC live on the train and walking to work, like millions of his fans do. I drive for only a small fraction of my 2 hour commute, and don't want to only listen to recorded material

When will there be a fully functional, small, walkman that can actually receive a decent live signal? That's what we need, at an affordable price.

I like my Xact Pod, but it is not practical. This is yet another cruel joke.

See thats my point, Do you really think that you are going to get a good signal on a train with ANY DSR setup. And bye the way I think many more millions of HS fans listen to him either at work, in the car or at home than does taking the train or walking to work. As usual just my .01.

Like I said, "close" to $500 because you have to get the home kit, Manco. Most people interested in this recordable device want to record while the sleep so they have content in the morning. Sirius should include the HOME kit and let you buy the car kit if you want to listen in the CAR. Bad move.

Yes, it will come down in price, but like the MSRP of the ReGo, it is too high for this industry.

SatRadio... you missed the point with the H2A product line and ad campaign. Sirius NEVER said that it was a portable. Here 2 anywhere represented a plug and play unit. The ad campaign showed it in a car, boat, rv, truck and home. XM blatantly lied with the MyFi. Watch the commercial for that device. It shows how many false advertising spots:

Elton John inside his mansion... Yeah OK
Elton John holding it in portable mode in the back of his Limo! Not happening

Baseball fans inside an airport. Again I say not happening.

In fact, I may see an early retirement angle here if I find a lawyer for false advertising to take this case. See the point?

Again. This is not a solution that was designed to fill the need of the person who wants to listen live on the go. It just wasn't. So if that is the case, then no one has the right to be let down by this product. They have a right to be let down with Sirius not filling that void, but I can tell you that it was a calculated decision. Bottom line is portable doesn't work. When it doesn't work, 90% of the consumers will blame Sirius. It will look bad when you have news channels doing stories on how bad your portable sucks (Fox 5 NY, Good Day NY and 10 news piece on the MyFi.) That story told people to save their money. It stated that it doesn't work. They ripped it apart and XM at the same time. If you can't deliver 100% then why make yourself look bad by throwing a shitty product on the shelves and pissing off customers??? I agree there is a market for a true full portable piece, but it still is not practical and those who are taking it out on this particuliar product and the engineers who they feel screwed them are the same customers that will fill this forum bitching that they can't use the portability and it doesn't work well. Now somebody tell me if their ass is being judged in this catch 22 what would you do?

Put out the product that works some of the time and will reflect bad against your company and effect potential customers decisions?

Put out a multifunction product that is state of the art, cutting edge, first of it's kind and will work when you pay for it to and expect it to??

By the way, the color screen is for potential things down the line such as Album Art/Covers etc., etc..
