Default Antenna Install Question

I want to purchase the new Sportser TK2 receiver with car kit, my problem is I do not want the antenna permanently installed because I have 2 cars and want to use the system in both cars. My question is will the system work if you place the microdot antenna on the dash. If I have to get it installed I will probably not purchase since my main goal is to have it portable.

If the question asked is answered no, it will not work, is there something like a wireless antenna that you could place on the roof or hood.

PS. Another problem I would have with installing the antenna is that I have a BMW Z3 convertible with no back window as one of my cars.
Thanks for any help

Quick answer: It might work, but not as well as mounting it on the roof. Magnetic mount antenna need a metal backplane and a lack of obstructions.

I often 'throw the antenna on the dash' and get a good signal, but I do get some dropouts during turns and when the car is going the wrong way.

There is a glass-mounted antenna sold by car makers out there, but I don't know much about it. There is no 'universal' glass-mounted antenna that I know of.

Good luck!

Colormatchantenna.com has antennas for $29.99 if you want to buy another one and mount it permanently on each car.

I have the antenna simply on the dash in my Dodge Caravan, works really well. Just drove 850 miles this past weekend and had about 5-6 drop outs for less than 2 seconds each. Locally, I hardly ever get drop outs.

EEPP!!!

850 miles this past weeked!!!!

By my calculations, that will have cost you about $10,000 in gas alone.

It works for me after my old Avox connector died until I get it installed on the roof because I hate the wires in the inside of the car.
