The difference is like night and day and the thing is going that route really isn't that expensive. If you get one with an Aux-input, you don't even have to do the dedicated Sirius Connect Tuner, you can hook up a plug and play so that you can use it at home/office and in the car with a single subscription.

Yeah... I just sold my mp3/wma compatible Alpine recently. I might pick something else up soon and get the right setup for it. We shall see.

I might look into a JVC just because it's the only H/U I can find in all black. Almost my entire interior is black so it looks funny to get a bright ol silver cd player...

Okay.. This is one of those posts that have probably been answered a million times.. Sorry, I tried the search, but no luck... So here goes...

I'm a longtime XMer and am going to pick up this XACT Visor reciever to add Sirius to my truck... What is the voltage requirement on this reciever? Is the audio out a regular 1/8 inch mini plug?

Thanks for your help...

Mine does double duty, switching between a '99 Tahoe and a '98 Dodge van, fairly easy transition... but I'm looking into getting a second antenna so I don't have to keep moving the antenna and risk scratching the paint or fatiguing the wire.

Default cool unit

Hello, first time poster...

I like this unit and was curious if this would be a good solution for home/work and office or is there a better unit to share across 3 platforms?

Are there small, inexpensive speakers I could use in the office? Is connection sipmple at home?

Thanks,
Frank

Welcome!

This is a decent, entry level tuner... and you can't beat the price! You would be able to use it at home, in the office, and in a car. You'd want to pick up a home kit if you want to use it in the home or office. They sell for about $50, and include a home antenna, power cord, RCA-cable (to connect to home stereo or portable, amplified speakers), and table stand.

This tuner has the least amount of features and the worst display out of all the Sirius tuners. It also doesn't use a docking cradle, so you'll need to plug/unplug a few wires every time you want to move it (instead of simply sliding the whole unit into a docking station). Some people don't like to do that since it takes more time and, potentially, wears out the contacts quicker. Those are the bad points of the Visor.

If you're looking for a cheap unit that you can use anywhere and will get you the Sirius service, this unit will do the job! If you're looking for a display that shows more information, the ability to save songs/artists that you like and be notified when they are playing, pause/rewind/fast forward songs, and other cool features like that, you might want to look elsewhere (I highly recommend the Starmate Replay if you don't mind spending the extra money... or the Sportster Replay if you want a docking cradle-based tuner).

As far as speakers go, any powered speakers with RCA audio inputs will work. I think Altec Lansing makes some relatively inexpensive ones.

Home hookup is very simple. The only potential issue is getting decent reception. If you want to receive your signal flawlessly indoors, you really need to get your home antenna outside with a clear line of sight to the sky... someplace like your roof, a wide-open area on your lawn with no obstructions, etc. If you keep the antenna indoors, receiving a steady signal can be problematic. You can try placing it near a window, but that doesn't always work consistently.

Hope that helps!

ok, I just bought one at walmart for $47.88. My question is this, how good is the FM transmitter and how easy is it to route the wires to the visor?
