If that is the case then do I leave it on to run on its own battery (again, just so I can have recorded content)?

2) With the S50 will the SQ be materially different whether I use an FM modulator or have a techinicam commect it directly to my car radio?

3) Per #5 above: when you say the songs fade in and out - are we talking all songs and are we talking just a few seconds?
1. The tuner MUST be turned on for it to record, there is no recording while its in standby or anything like that. Someone suggested that the display should be able to be turned off so you could leave it on without someone noticing it. You do know you can bring it in the house using the proper power adapater.

2. The best SQ is always a direct connected setup. So, if you can go direct, I'd do that, you'll be glad you did.

3. All songs rather it be in the My Sirius Channels or those "LOVED" fade the start and ending of the song. Some songs are worse than others as it attempts to remove the DJ chatter etc. MP3's that you load do not do this, it is only the recorded content.

Default Dab

This is my initiation with Sirius - with all of the problems surrounding this unit what is your best guess?

1) Do you think there is a design/software flaw or are people just not reading every word contained in the manual?

2) Are you sticking with it because you want to see a satisfactory solution or do you still believe this is a top-notch product (that will only get better with time)?

3) Finally, going back to my original question: should I stay with this unit because it IS beter than the Sportster and all of the other PNP Sirius products or...................?

Thanks

1. I think like all new products, we are finding out there are some bugs and issues that Directed will have to address. I do see many of the issues that have been brought as being because people are NOT taking the time to read the manual. You know us guys we just want to tear into it and expect it all to be self explainatory and when its not we start complaing. There are some valid bugs though that will need to be addressed.

2. I am sticking with it because there is no other tuner for SIRIUS that gives me the freedom this tuner does. Besides even with the bugs I am totally happy with it. I do think it is a good product and there will be some firmware updates to correct problems as wel go along. Early adopters are always beta testers for new products.

3. I can't say the S50 is better, each tuner is designed to provide a certain level of service. The Sportster is very good at providing live reception in cradles with portability via a boombox. But you are always bound by reception, antenna and power issues. The S50 after loading it with content sets you free from all those limitations. But it also is a tuner that provides live reception when cradled just like the Sportster, but it has a pretty colored screen. LOL

I think you need to evaluate what you are looking for in a turner and then plug yourself into the one that best will meet your needs. You know the S50 has some bugs, but do the avantages that it gives out weight those issues, for me absolutely YES. I want that freedom the S50 provides it nicely.

Default I love Starmate Replay.

My starmate replay is great.
I'm totally happy with it, as a matter of fact I have found myself leaving for work earlier than normal so that I can listen to it in my car longer.
I am however running into the same home reception problem that everyone runs into with a home kit, but this weekend I plan on getting a flag pole mounting bracket and a 4 foot wooden dowl and mounting the antenna to the outside of my house. I have been reading about external mounting of the home antenna in these forums and it seems to be the only way to go.

I just wanna commend everyone in this thread, its been really informative. I came across this forum when i started to do some research on Sirius. After reading all this i made the plunge with the Starmate Replay. I ordered it from Costco ($59.99 no rebate) and it just showed up today. Its a really good looking compact receiver, im only gonna be using it in my house.

The primary reason i got Sirius was for Howard Stern but im a huge music fan so im looking forward to checking out all the other content. Im gonna wait until next week to activate it (i wanna put off the subscription fee until next months credit card bill). I just gotta go out and pick up the home kit. Thanks again...

Default Program Alert Feature

Can someone clarify for me how the program alert feature works on the Starmate Replay?

Can you program in a specific time and channel?

Can the program be a recurring event (like every weekday at 6:00 AM).

Can you have more than one program? If so, how many?

Does it change the channel for you or does it just alert you?

Thanks a lot.

Default Boombox?

Will there ever be a boombox for the Sirius Replay? I am trying to find a way to listen to Howard at work. A boombox seemed liked the logical solution.

I can't figure the seek feature out. And I can't find my manual. I have an artist programmed in and when a song of his comes on it beeps, but then what the heck am I supposed to press? I hit the select button and it asks for a channem number and then I click the memo button and it does nothing. ???

I just picked up a Starmate Replay to replace my old PNP-2 and thought I'd ask those that have had one for several months if they've had any problems with the connectors wearing out from plugging and unplugging. I take this in and out of my car daily and into my office or home and am a bit concerned that they may wear out or break.

I've had mine for a few months and haven't had any problems with the connectors.

I've had my iPod for a couple of years now and the headphone jack is doing just fine. Can't say the same for the battery.

I think if you're careful to not flex the connectors when connecting you'll be fine. They are designed to be plugged and unplugged many times. Abuse is another matter. There is a connector on the dock units as well remember, so that has the potential to fail as it will be subjected to the same number of connects over it's lifecycle.

I love my Starmate Replay - no problems so far and the 30 Artist Seeks are terrific.
