Default JVC Ar-960 Users....Ever Experience This

Driving down the road today, listening at a low volume and I heard a click(more so than a pop). Said to myself, that didn't sound good. I'm trying to remember back but I think I lost the signal for about 15-20 seconds. When my signal came back I tried to change the channel but I could not(using my remote) After a minute or so, I pressed buttons on the head unit itself and it did change the channels and also was able to change my volume.

This happened about 5 hours ago. Since then I've tried using the radio 3 times and everything seems to be working.

I remember reading on this board about 6-8 months ago that a few people had information freezing on the screen and not being able to change volume or stations. I can't remember the username but one guy I do remember had a avatar that had a shape of a baseball diamond from Philly. I remember his saying he was going to contact Jvc. I never saw a follow up post with what he had found.

Any help would be appreciated if you experienced this or know the story I'm referring to.

thanks.

Yes, I've had it happen, but it has been a long time since it has. But I think it is just a glitch between the SIRIUS interface and the head unit interface. I recall having it happen twice in a day, then it was a week or two, then it happened again. I was thinking I am not going to deal with this, so I broke down and basically disconnected everything and then reconnected. It has never frozen up again and that has been at least 3 months ago.

What I have had happen is that my text info doesn't always update when I first turn it on. But you simple move to the next channel and back and its okay. That too is a very rare bug, but it happens. I've also seen reports of PNP 2.5g tuners not updating, so I think this bug lies wtih SIRIUS.

Overall the JVC has been a very reliable head unit.

This has happened to me a few times as well. I just turned off the unit and turned it back on. Hasn't happened in a while.

DAB,

Thanks for the reply. I've been scared all day that the next time I get in my car the info would be frozen on the display and not know what to do.

This is the first issue I've had. Can't beat the display.

Thanks again.

What about first thing in the morning, or maybe when it is really cold out, mine goes dead with no signal for 2-5mins and then comes on fine. It's almost like it needs to warm up or something. I had a similar problem with my PNP 2 by Audiovox, when it was really cold in the morning it would take a minute or two to get a signal and sound.

It is only cold here in San Diego in the mornings (40-50*) and this is the only time I've noticed this. This can't be happening to everyone, especially to those in colder climates, otherwise I would have seen many posts on the subject. What's weird is that even when I turn it on in the morning, there is a signal for about 1 min or less then it breaks up and goes quiet for a couple of min, then it is fine the rest of the day.

Anyone else have this happen?

The past few days for me it was 16 degrees when I got in my car. My unit said "Low Temp" in the upper left corner of the screen. I still had Sirius. No problems at all.

When my car warmed up the "Low Temp" went away.

I'm checking out the AR960 manual now because I remember reading something about the 'low temp' condition. Here is what it says in the troubleshooting section:

Symptoms: Animation does not move & The display graphic function does not work correctly.

Causes: Temperature inside the car is below 0C (32F) - 'low temp'
appears on the display.

Remedies: Wait until the operating temperature resumes.

I have not yet had the clicking noise problem that sportboy mentions in the original post. The only thing that ever happened with my AR960 turned out to be my fault. While listening after first hooking up the unit,
the display flashed 'Reset 08' and the unit stopped recognizing my Sirius tuner. The reason was because the J-Bus connection cord became unplugged from the AR960. I wasn't careful enough with the extra wires when I pushed back the unit to secure it in the dash. The wiring harness and the terrestrial antenna actually pushed against the J-Bus cable, causing it to unplug. I removed the unit, and carefully bundled the excess
wiring and sent them in 3 different directions: The wiring harness went Southwest, the terrestrial antenna went Southeast, and the J-Bus cable went North. I reinstalled the HU in the dash, and everything has been working perfectly since. Live and Learn .

That's cool, I didn't even know there was a "low temp" warning on the JVC. But it seems it has to do with the display, and not the reception problems I described.
When I first brought this up back with my Audiovox PNP2, someone suggested that maybe the antenna plug was contracting from the colder temps and not making a good connection with the unit. I did bend the contacts a little tighter and it seemed to work for awhile.
I am using the same antenna from my PNP2, not the one that came with my JVC tuner, so maybe this problem has resurfaced again.
