Default Starmate Replay Display Defect??

I'm wondering after reading a few posts about this problem that it is a common thing. I have been reading that some people have had problems with their Starmate replay display burning out like two lines and they now see "spots" or something. Has this happened to anyone else? I am excited about getting the Starmate replay because it has the pause and rewind feature but not if it's gonna stop working after only a few months. I just got the sirius one which works great at home but I would rather get the starmate.

Well Candy, I don't know if you referred to my own posting on this forum but indeed, my display now shows LCD dissipation and nice big stains that I believe to be caused by heat.

Still, I hipe to be able to replace that unit with another Starmate Replay, they are very versatile and feature-rich radios.

I read somewhere that turning the display brightness down helps reduce the heat. I did this on my XACT Replay and it only gets warm, even if I leave it on for a long time (eg. overnight at home). I found the default brightness setting too bright anyways, especially in the car at night. Even when set to 1 or two bars, it's plenty bright.

Wow! Turning the brightness down? I can't imagine anyone would actually turn the brightness up in the first place!!! :-)

The starmate replay's display is as bright as a lantern. When I first powered it, the first thing I did was to turn the backlit way down low. Even at the low setting, I still had to put the receiver face down when driving at night. And yet, it still burnt!

If I was bright enough to know how to post a picture in here I'd show you what the display looks like, quite creepy.

If someone can show me how, I'll gladly oblige.

Somehow, clicking the IMG button brings up a [/img]. Not much help there. Should I add the image filename in the Insert image field, or full path?

I mentioned that I got the starmate replay at last in a separate post. I don't think the display is creepy at all. I love it. It is really bright though. I had to turn it down. To show images just do

I got Best buy's warranty which is mandatory 4 years for $29 in case the display does burn out.
