Default Streamer GTR...needs to warm up?!?!?

I upgraded to a Streamer GTR last month, and it doesn't like the cold. If it's below 50 degrees, it takes 2-15 minutes for it to come on. The colder it is, the longer it takes. It stays on an "acquiring signal" screen until it's warm. I've tried swapping antennas and it makes no difference.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

I called customer service today and they tried to convince me that this is normal! They eventually gave me an RMA number & it's heading back.

My Starmete Replay doesn't like the cold either, but not that bad. If it is under 30F then it gives me an antenna not detected message, but if I wiggle the connection a little it comes on.

It would make since to me it would like it colder. Where do you live, do you have a lot of dew in the morning. It could be the humidity that is causing the problem. Normally the dew point rises at night and early in the morning which means the humidity level rises. One place that it could be causing the problem is your antenna, if you get a lot of dew build up and and it is leaking into your antenna, it might be casuing a short until you dirve for a little bit and it drys out.

I do know that the LCD displays do not like the cold and will crawl real slow, but that is due to LCD in general, but that should not casue this problem.

Not saying that is the problem but it is just an idea.

Do a search, as there are a number of threads on this issue for both the S50 and Starmate/Streamer GT Replays.

Wow, looks like Sirius has a problem with these. Thanks for the tip! I guess that sending mine in for repair would be a waste of time. Does anyone have a Starmate/Streamer or S50 that works properly in the cold?

I refuse to answer that on the grounds that I may jinx myself.
