Default SIR-GM1 updates (post 'em here)

http://www.thesiriusstore.com/sirius...ad11ed9b1d6dfb...

Looks like this is the week, but we've seen these dates come & go. I've got one on order from Crutchfield that's showing an esd of 3/30.

Do you have any news?? Who else has one on order??

I emailed them the other day asking them if they knew which cars it was compatible with, and got this response:
Quote:
No, not at this point. I have a feeling that the answer to that question is still being worked on and probably why the item has been delayed so far.

I believe that would have been our response. On our page we really try as hard to prevent people from asking the compatibility at this point for a couple of reasons. Those reasons are.

One, if for some reason the compatibility changes, we don't want to be held responsible.

Two, it will definetly will be posted when it becomes available. If we feel that any of the compatibility info seems unsure, that part may not be posted.

But that's just us.

I recenltly ran across an article in TWICE that stated the release was not until the "2nd quarter", which I guess is April-May-June.

I had emailed Directed about availability dates and got NO response.

Having a new GM car with built in XM, I had hoped for the SIRGM1 to seamlessly integrate my Sirius. (I got the XM free for 3 months but didn't renew).

I ended up putting the Starmate in my car. I have an AUX port built in to my GM radio on the front. The install obviously was a snap. I'm using the Starmate's antenna right now but plan on pirating in to the XM antenna because I don't want an extra antenna on top of the car. I now have 3 up there and it looks like a lunar landing station.

Which GM vehicles have the AUX input on the front?

We sound like we're in the same boat. Same town, both using starmates until we get our gm integrated unit, & both have unanswered emails from directed, both planning on using GM XM antennas to avoid the stormchaser look. I also fished my way to their brand marketing manager for sirius, but he didn't return emails or voice mails either. I imagine they're getting pounded for this information. I can't believe they wouldn't give someone a sneak peek, and get the hype going.

CEA Anticipates More 12V Growth In SDAR
I found the article mentioned and here is an interesting excerpt:

Quote:
This year will also see some new product innovations on the retail side. Sirius stated that it will offer a “live” Sirius/MP3 headset/portable some time this year (the current S50 only records Sirius programming when docked in a cradle).

Sirius also previewed at International CES a new Sirius-to-Genaral Motors adapter that will open up the now exclusively XM/GM market to Sirius. The Sirius/GM converter, called the SIR-GM1, will be offered in the second quarter by Directed under the SiriusConnect program. It will be compatible with Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Hummer, Isuzu, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Saturn vehicles, totaling about 52 models. And it will work with GM models back to 2003 or 2004, said Sirius.

The SIR-GM1 ships with two harnesses, including one that connects through the XM radio cable. The interface, at a suggested retail price of $99.99 including the cable, antenna and tuner, joins other new SiriusConnect products expected for Sony after-market radios in the first quarter and Panasonic in the first half, said a Sirius spokesman.
Was anyone at the CES that got to see this? What car was it attached to? Also, looking at NASDAQ, it seems that Q2 for these guys will be June-July-August most likely, as they announced EOY results in March. Bummer.

My Pontiac Solstice looks like it has the same radio, with front AUX input.

The 2006 Chevy Impala has one, too...the reason I know that is because my company car (2003 Taurus) is up for replacement this year, and I'm lobbying my company's purchasing department to let me get an Impala instead. Yesterday I drove 250 miles and had to suffer with the FM transmitter. I'm spoiled by having Sirius built into one of my cars, and having an aux input in the other.

My new mantra: "Blessed are the iPod users, for they have created demand for an auxillary input."

Crutchfield still maintains that it's coming in tomorrow (crossing my fingers). Every other time that the lead time has increased, they've called 2 days before to tell me. Today I called them, and they say they're comfortable with the ESD. We'll see!
