Exclamation Sound Quality: Sportster 4 (sux) vs. Starmate Replay (better)...WHY???

I had both radios hard wired to my car.

For some reason, the Sportster 4 sounds hollow, congested and sibilant.

I've had both radios long enough to know that my Sportster 4 is not living up to sound as the Starmate Replay. It's as if the factory messed around with the sound settings (high on treble, messed up mids).

Can anybody throw darts and explain why the sound difference between the units????...

I'm in for a game of darts anytime, but I can't explain the difference.

However, I noticed the same thing between the new ST4 and the Sportster Replay. The ST4 sounds so much better. I'm using a tape adapter in the car.

With the SR I needed to use an attenuator (Radioshack inline volume control) because the audio from the SR was overdriving the tape adpater even at its lowes volume setting. So you could try to turn down the volume on the S4 and see if that helps.

I'm way ahead of you on this. I began with the volume adjusments.....apples to apples.

I've A/B'ed this comparo with friends. All leading to the same conclusion.

I don't think the Sportster 4 is broken, it's just a dud when you compare it to other models.

Unless I'm missing something....

Maybe the s4 uses lower grade electronics.
