Default Sportster Replay reviews anyone? Need info on it....

I'm thinking of getting the Sportster Replay with the "free radio" deal by Sirius for my wife's car and also the home kit for it as well. (Free radio, $6.99 p/mo and the Home kit for $49.99)

Anyone care to give their opinions on the radio?

I have the new Stratus and it was fairly easy to install and am wondering about the Sportster Replay's ease of use and also it's reception.

Also, are these the one's that have the old FM transmitter (better range) built in? Becausse that would make the install even easier.

The replay is the most reliable IMO. Very good.

I have had the replay sense Dec and have had no issues.. I'm looking to get another before they stop making them. I have the car, home and boombox so I want to have a backup. IMO its a good unit.
Not sure it the new ones have th old transmitters.. My guess is no..

I've only had the Sportster Replay for less than a week now. Let me state first off that you will likely get a Sportster with a newer transmitter. You'll probably need to get an FM modulator relay at the very least. I now have one for each of my two cars, and it makes a huge difference in sound quality!! When I was trying to use it in the house, it was right next to the FM antenna and I was still getting static. IMO the Sportster is better than my Xact XTR8CK in many aspects. For instance, I think the sound quality is a little better, and so is the remote. With the Xact remote, it seems as though I have to hold it within 1 foot from the receiver before it will work. With the Sportster remote, I can be across the room and it will still work. I also got the boombox for the Sportster. Awesome portability!! Also, it has a lock feature so other people can't mess with the settings on it. Plus, you won't have to unhook the cables to move it from one place to another as long as you have a car or home kit wherever you're moving it to. It's just plug-n-play. On the negative side, it seems that the Xact will play with a weak signal when the Sportster won't. Someone commented on the Sportster's lack of FM xmit presets, but I don't miss it. In addition, Sportster's lack of artist/title alerts has also been noted but it's not a feature that I use. Unfortunately, after only having the Sportster Replay for a week I can't comment on it's reliability. However, I can tell you I've had trouble with the XTR8CK which is similar in many aspects to the Starmate Replay.

I know you're not asking for a comparison, but it's the easiest way I can explain the differences.

I've had the sportster replay for a year now. The only issue is the backlights are fading.....no lights at all behind the presets...this is a common problem and I can live with it,or should I say my wife can....its in her car.

That was only an issue with the korean made Sportster Replays, unfortunatly i too have one and none of my buttons light up anymore. But i can live with it untill the next gen radios come out.

I dont think they even sell the korean produced ones anymore, so you shouldnt run into that problem.

Thanks guys for the comments. I got the Sportster Replay for the free radio with boombox deal, so I'm glad to hear good things about it.

Question: I know it only comes with the suction cup, anyway else you guys have seen to install it instead of the windshield? Adhesive? Velcro?. etc.

Also, I hope I get the one with the old FM transmitter so I don't have to get a modulator. My wifes Nissan Xterra seems a bit tricky to get to the back of the radio.

I think you can tell the new fm modulators inside by a nice blue round dot sticker on the back of the unit.

I just got my "free" sportster replay as I was going to move my xact xtr1 into my house and use the replay in the car exclusively.

Unfortunately it would seem the FM modulator is neutered as far as power output is concerned. I turn on my xact and immediately it overpowers the replay to the point that you dont even know the fm mod is ON, on the replay.

I'll have to take this thing for a test drive to see if its going to be strong enough for my needs.
