Default Scion needs SIRIUS

Problem: My brother Dave wants SIRIUS Satellite Radio, since he's addicted to Left of Center. He is convinced that all he needs to do is press the SAT button and call up SIRIUS to activate it. The thing is that I know more about cars than he does and since nothing happens when you press the SAT button, it is said that there is no tuner plugged in, and Pioneer SCION radios are made for XM radios only, despite the label saying "SAT RADIO READY".

Can anybody convince a 24-year-old that I'm right and it's not as easy as he thinks.

realwx, you are right. My GF has a Kenwood HU in her car that's Sirius Ready, and yes I had to hook up the separate tuner (which now runs about $100) and mount the antenna on the trunk lid. Now that it's in, it works great, but there is more to it than just pushing a button and activating it. I'm not sure about the Pioneer SCION models though, but you may want to look on their site and see what it says about being XM only. Unless this is a factory installed unit, and then it may be XM only. But most Pioneer aftermarket HU's can be used with both services to the best of my knowledge.

The Scions come with Pioneer Head Units. You will need a SIR-PNR1 or SIR-PNR2 connect. Connect that to the receiver and your good to go.

My wife has a 2005 Scion. I bought her the SIRIUS XACT VISOR and connected it to the cup holder above the glove box.
