Post Which Sirius Receiver has the best wireless FM transmitter?

I have a sportster replay with the new FM transmitter which is almost unless in the home, so needless to say I am looking to replace it with a receiver which has a decent FM transmitter. Right now I am looking at the Sportster SP-R1, is this a viable candidate or should I look elsewhere?

Thanks

I got the same unit and am in the same boat...

You cant really tell these days... probably best bet is to buy a used radio from ebay (since it'll be pre-fcc crackdown) or if you see "old stock" in a retail store... although I dont know how youd know if it was old or not...

I have an Xact Visor I bought for 20 bucks off ebay and it has the STRONGEST FM modulator I've tried to date... this puppy is strong.

I dont know if they've made "new" fm neutered versions of these though.

Quick question for ya, does your sportster replay have a blue dot sticker on the back? mine does, I'm thinking this is how they could tell they were modded to be fcc friendly = aka crappy fm mod

Yes, there is a blue dot on the back of the receiver. Maybe that would be one way to determine if you're purchasing a good one is to ask the seller on ebay if the unit has a blue dot. Thanks for the reply.

I can hear all of those eBay sellers peeling off those blue stickers right now!

I have an SV1 that is almost a year old. It has a pretty good FM transmitter. I have never had that much interference.

If it's new then forget it. The Orig S50 and Sportster Replay broadcast for hundreds and hundreds of feet. The best by far but now it's hit or miss with the new stuff. I'm willing to bet the feature will be gone in the next round of radios.

So I guess now everyone has to at least have a wired fm modulator right?

Another vote for the FM modulator in the XACT Visor. I've seen them still for sale in Wal Mart for about $50. Walmart.com has them for about $28:

Don't know if they have the neutered FM modulators, though. Worth a try possibly, and a return if it doesn't work for you.

Default fm transmitter

What I did for my sportster 4 is buy a belkin Fm transmitter at Wal-Mart and that works pretty damn good! Even though it's another thing on my dash, it's rather small and not too bad. All I did was turn off the FM transmitter on the sportster4 and it uses the belkin one which works pretty good with no static.

Which one did you get? can you link it for me?

also how is it powered? battery? or through the satellite radio?

Well, I know that it's the more expensive one like $30.00 or so. I think it's the belkin II transmitter because they do have a cheaper one, but I went for the more expensive just to be sure. It runs either off batteries ( I think one or two AAA) or you can use the power adaptor it comes with which is what I do. Keep in mind that if you only have one 12v in the car, you'll need to go to radio shack and buy one of those adapters that has two slots. It's only like 5 or 6 bucks I think. That way you can have the belkin adaptor plugged in as well as the one for your radio at the same time. You can go with just using the batteries, but I'm sure they'll run out fast. Oh yea, and the cool thing about it is that the transmitter has an auto on/off feature, so that you won't have to keep turning it on and off. It comes on when the sirius radio comes on and off when the radio is turned off.

aren't you much better off getting a wired fm modulator for 20 bucks?

I am not going to rip out my stereo, and attempt maybe breaking something, I know people have said its easy, but I am not good with cars & car electronics.
