Hey Joe, I was always very happy with my JVC1. You are correct the SQ is great and the clean install is great too. I can't speak to your Xact, but let me just say I've never been impressed much by Xact tuners. My comparsion on reception was between the JVC1 and Stiletto. For me the difference in reception is pretty significant. Don't get me wrong the drop-outs with the JVC1 was more than acceptable, but once I tried the Stiletto and realized how much better it could be. Along with all the great additional features I was missing with the JVC1. I just made a decision to bust a move. There is NOTHING wrong with the JVC1. In fact I am holding on to mine, just in case I ever get a wild hair and decide to go back to it.

PhillyPhan, you are right about the big investment. But I decided that I am really happy with the Stiletto. It is a tuner I feel I can live with for a long time. So I am looking for the long term and I think even with the investment the savings over time will be worth it. I sold most of all my older equipment from boomboxes, to car and home docks, to tuners. I was actually able to get enough money to recoup about 3/4 of my investment into the Stiletto. But I understand not everyone is able to do that. I do have my Orbiter still, not giving it up yet. But I'll mainly use it at the camp because if it gets knocked around.. oh well no big deal.

This seems like a good a place as any to ask this question, so I can avoid opening a whole new thread.

Where do you physically place the SIR-JVC1 unit when you install it and how exactly do you secure it?

Now I already have this tuner and I see that it comes with some weird looking nail-screws (or whatever they're called). How can I screw something into my, ya know, metal car? An explanation would be very appreciated... I'll be installing a completely new setup (this + AVX2) myself in a couple days and this is the only thing i don't get.

I zip tied mine behind the plastic wall near passenger floor. Just look for a spot, not too tight, where it will have air to breathe and you can reach the radio with the cables.

It's fun to take your car apart to find the right spot.

This is sort of what I was getting at... (and no, I've never installed anything in a car before) how do you screw something into metal? I get that you can screw something into metal, but do you treat it any different from wood?
