Default JVC KD-AR870 w/SIR-JVC1 sirius tuner install pics in a 05 F150..check it out.

i installed this in my 2005 Ford F150. i got this head unit from overstock.com for $84 shipped to my door. overall it looks and sounds great. i have the sirius tuner (sir-jvc1) installed, and used the metra dash kit from crutchfield. i didnt use the mounting cage, i iso mounted it so i could use the metra trim plate which makes it look more flush. sirius works awesome and the display shows the whole artist and song title in 2 nice looking lines of display. i highly recommend this head unit. it does have a detachable face if anyone is worried about theft.

here are some pics and a vid of how sirius works..

again, the headunit is a jvc kd-ar870 and sir-jvc1 sirus tuner, with metra dash kit from crutchfield.

So you finally bit the bullet, well how many months did that take? LOL

It does indeed look nice in your vehicle. Strange you are just coming to the JVC1 Sirius tuner and I am doing a total turn around and actually thinking about going back to a dock using the Aux-Input for my Stiletto.

yes, i took me a long time to do this.......the price of the unit is what actually got me to bite the bullet. the only problem i am having is keeping a good satellite conection with the sir-jvc1 tuner. i am having a drop out problem that i never had with my sportster or s50...i have to try a different antenna location. overall i like the way it works and sounds. i was thinking about the stilletto but i was sick and tired of trying to find a good spot to put the pnp radios in my truck..

Good job, One. I'm glad to see you finally took the plunge with the JVC. Keep us posted with your experience.

the SIR-JVC1 sucks...i swapped it out with a new one and i still kept getting signal drops..it was so annoying that i finally said forget it. i just went out and bought the stilletto and a car dock and sent the SIR-JVC1 back. i have had the stilletto for 2 days now and not one signal drop....i dont know why the Sirius JVC tuners have a hard time holding on to the signal. i kept the jvc headunit for now and was able to hard wire the stilletto to the jvc aux line in on the back of the headunit. it sounds awesome. im thinking about just getting rid of the JVC KD-AR870 and getting the AVX2. DAB, if you ever decide to sell your AVX2 let me know...

Don't wait on me to sell my AVX2. I love it as much today as I did when I first bought it. I am not using the JVC1 any longer either. I got a great mounting location for my Stiletto and I am using the aux-input. The sound is fantastic. I am also using the CD Din connection with my JVC iPod adapter and that works GREAT too.

I just want to say that why my JVC1 did drop-out a lot more than my Stiletto, I was fairly happy with it because of the clean install. In some vehicles it is hard to figure out a place to mount a PNP unit. That is the one good thing about the JVC1 is the clean install. But I am much more happy with the Stiletto.

I've had my SIR-JVC1 in since April and have never had the problems you speak about. I have that exact head unit and tuner in my F-150 and love it. It out-performs the Sportster Replay I used to have any day.

I have some dropouts with my SIR-JVC1 but nothing that bothers me too much.

I have switched to the Stiletto car dock instead of the SIR-JVC1. The SQ is awesome and I have had many less drop outs. I like having all the goodies that come with a PnP unit.

The Stiletto looks nice. MM, you and DAB are tempting me, but...must...resist. I have to tell myself that there is nothing wrong with my JVC, but I do get to enjoy my Streamer (Orbiter) when I drive my wife's car.

It worked out for me because I wanted to lower my subs. Now that I have a Stiletto in the car and home, I achieved this.

The SQ is great, as I said before, do it........

Yes that was my story too, less subs and more features. I wanted a single tuner that I could use everywhere. You do lose the ability to just jump in the vehicle without remembering to bring the Stiletto. Plus the super clean install. But that is a small price to pay to save the $6.99 a month, which adds up over time.

I am so very pleased with the reception, which is better than the JVC1 and the SQ is excellent. MM and I were the two biggest JVC1 guys on the forum. I think we pretty much led everyone else to them. Now we've both abandoned them.

I wish I could go down to one sub, but in addition to the JVC1, I have a new Original Streamer with two docks at home, one at work and another in one car. If I were to deactivate my JVC1 and Streamer to save on one sub, I would have to buy a Stiletto ($300), two car docks ($70 ea.), and at least two home docks ($70 ea). This is not to mention install for two cars. This would be a $500 investment to save $7 per month.

More realistically to save on a sub, I could turn off the JVC1 and just have a Streamer car dock put back in my car. I am also thinking about turning off my XM Roady2. I do like XM, but I just don't listen to XM much. I thought I would listen more to XM for baseball, but as it turned out once SIRIUS got FOX Talk in February, I hardly turned on the XM.

We have the JVC1 installed in our Honda and we do not have any of the problems reported here. The system has been installed for 6 months now and the SQ is excellent and the signal hardly ever drops out. We were using an XACT PNP before in the car and I still use the PNP in my truck. The PNP is connected to my factory radio via a cassette adapter. The SQ is head and shoulders better on the JVC1. As far as signal, the JVC1 acquires faster, changes stations faster and the signal never drops out. When driving down the same stretches of freeway, the JVC1 will not drop out where my XACT drops out. The antennas are located in the same place above the windsheld.

In fact, it sorta pisses me off that my wife's setup works better and sounds better than my truck.. But, I am going to fix that soon !

Joe
