Default Sirius Nightmare

Here's a holiday story that will warm your heart.

A few months after I got a Starmate Replay for Christmas last year the power supply on the unit started to become loose. Like many other people, my unit wouldn't stay on. So I got a replacement. Now that replacement has done the same thing. I call up warranty, get a replacement. I also change my address with them for the SECOND time (I moved earlier in the year and called to change my address once already). Then my radio never arrives. I call back two weeks later and find out they STILL didn't change my address and they shipped the unit to the wrong address. So they overnight me a new Starmate. I opened it up last night. Plug it in, turn it on. Activate. Tune to channel 14. Music for abour 5 seconds, then the radio goes off, beeps, turns back on. Goes off again beeps turns back on, goes off again beeps turns back on..... This unit is broken as well.

I really love the SIRIUS content but honestly...what the F*** is going on with their equipment!

other issues for your amusement
1. One time the warranty center said "no supervisors are available to help you". So we sat in silence on the phone.
2. Once they did find a supervisor, they transferred me to his voicemail but they said there weren't supposed to do that. Regardless he never called me back.
3. I had to fight tooth and nail for them to refund me my two weeks of no service (they sent the radio to the wrong address). Refund still hasn't posted to my account. Looks like i'll call again.
4. I spent over 40 minutes one morning talking to warranty
5. They e-mailed me the WRONG tracking number for my radio
6. in case you missed it above, when my third replacememnt unit arrived it didn't even work right out of the box.

anyone think we have some issues here that we as consumers can band together and get some results? i'm serious about this.

This is something everyone should do if they have a problem. Don't give up if you find that they are not willing to help you and satisfy your needs. Don't settle for the first person saying they cannot help you. Go over there head until you find someone that will help you.

Sorry you are having problems with your receiver. The only satellite radio that I ever had a problem with was a Starmate ST-1. This includes XM or Sirius. I did have an antenna wire go bad on my SkyFi receiver once, but that was my fault for plugging and unplugging my antenna when I took it out of my truck.

So far I've had three XM radios. No problems.

I've bought five Sirius radio. One problem.

Sorry to hear about this. I don't know why you are having so many problems with your radios. It's too bad. For every one story of someone having a problem with there radios, hundreds (thousands) of people with no problems never get told.

I've had my Streamer GTR in my truck for about six months now. I plug and unplug it every time I go home to put in my car or in the Starmate Boombox. I have never had problem one with it. Unlike my Starmate ST-1, everything works as it should.

Maybe you should look into getting a radio that you don't have to plug and unplug every time you have to move it...

First thanks for replying. yeah I just can't believe how odd my whole ordeal has been either - the most difficult part of all of this is that I like the programming and i really miss hearing NBA games and Howard! i really hope they try to help me at least a little. even when i e-mailed customer support and told them warranty said they had no supervisors to help me they just e-mailed me back the number for the warranty center

do you know of a radio that you don't have to plug and unplug everytime time to move? don't those stilleto/portable units have a lot of problems too?

Just about all the new portables use the new Universal Mount. Makes it easier to move the radio from car to home, and vices versa.

Check out tss-radio and you will see all the new radios.

The Starmate 4 is one of those radios.

Good luck...

I don't know about how good XACT is, but I have it on good authority that XACT will soon stop making Sirius Radios, if that tells you anything...

I had the Starplay for a year also (ST2) right ? No problems reported on mine. Probably just had a streak of bad luck with those models. Don't worry bro, it will be worth it in the end when you finally get one that works
