Default Which Sirius should I get?

Hello, this is my first post here, but many of you who may post at or read XMFan.Com may know me there as Brian202. I was thinking last night that I should give Sirius a try for a couple of months to see if I liked it or not, but I don't want to spend a lot of money on a radio that I may not wind up using for long. (no offense to anyone here or to Sirius, but I mean that as when I got XM, I didn't pay for the radio, it was a gift).

Basically, I'm looking for the cheapest radio that I can get that compares to XM's SkyFi 2. What radio would that be, and how much would it cost? Also, what is the best subscription plan for me to get to try Sirius out?

Also, I don't plan on buying Sirius until at least after my birthday, Dec. 29, because I'm planning on getting this extra money from any Christmas/Birthday money I may receive.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Brian,

My wife has the XACT Visor which is pretty much a "generic" radio but does the job (only has a one line display).

The XACT REPLAY would be more like the SkyFi2.

Well, I'm also looking for something that would be cheap. It doesn't have to be the equivalent of XM's SkyFi 2, but it'd be nice. What I'm looking for is something that I can listen to at home via an FM modulator or tape deck. What is the cheapest radio like that? Also, I don't plan on buying Sirius any time until at least after my birthday because I'm counting on some extra money being at my disposal around that time, so any discounts for Christmas won't do me any good.

thats you cheapest option, dont think there's a home kit for it though. the 3 month plan is probably the best for you.

Ok, but is there any way I can use this outside of a car?

OK, do you mean in a boombox? if so, no, you can't use that one. If you wanna get a boombox you have to spend a bit more money and get starmate or a sportster replay, older or the newer versions (I suggest the newer versions, starmate 4 or sportster 4) but now your talking a bit more money than you probably want to spend.

No, I'm talking about something that I can use with an FM modulator to put it onto my FM Radio. How much would those radios cost?

listen dude, they all have fm modulators. take your pick. and I'm pretty sure you already knew that, since you aren't new to the sat radio scene. end of discussion.

I'm getting a small hint of troll in the air.

Maybe I seem like I am trolling, but I'm not. I simply am trying to find out what the most affordable Sirius is for me.

I'm not really good at message board trolling, FWIW. I don't have the control to try and conceal anything in posts, I would just start from post 1 with trouble, so I'm legit.

You guys are tough somtimes....the guy said in his first post he posted on xmfan...to me that's bein honest....cut the guy some slack...jeez...this place is about answering questions and he's got one.
Brian, if your lookin for a pnp the cheapest way to go is probably the Stratus.
If your lookin for something for on the go(wireless type) your options are limited to the s50 and stiletto both of which are expensive...if I've missed something or am incorrect someone please chime in..
One more thing....when you are ready to buy www.tssradio.com has a lot of options and can help you chose a radio that suits your needs...the customer service folks will take you through everything and I'm sure give you some great info...
Good luck..
And welcome to SBS!

Yeah, I agree. Take it easy on the XM people. Some XMers come around because they really do want to learn more about Sirius.

As a long time XMer (soon coming to an end), I'm happy I came to Sirius...

XACT Visors are on EBAY fairly inexpensive.

I was fine the first two posts, but his question just started to sound a bit fishy. If you are legit, I apologize for being a dick. Like I said, every radio has a built in fm modulator, but they are very weak now, so you should probably invest in the wired fm modulator too. Go with the stratus, like siriussurfer suggested, then if you likey, invest in the wired modulator.
