from what I understand, they have the same features, just in different bodies. I have the sportster 4 and love it. but the starmate 4 looks nice too cause its a bit smaller.

Like rayndog says.. Basically it's size.

The Starmate is a bit smaller (The sportster is just as thick, but it's a full inch higher and about 1/4 inch wider). For mobile installations it requires less real estate on your dash. You might find this makes it easier to install.

Otherwise, the performance is the same.

I'll probably catch hell too for insulting Dear Ole Sirius, but that dang power cord problem is a real nuisance. Otherwise, it's a nice unit.

I got it for 50 bucks or something, so I guess you shouldn't expect much.

Ok lets go through this one by one...
1. If you use the "search function" on this forum you will see lots of folks that have had the very same problem with the starmate.
2. This forum is one big "complaint" if you spent any time reading you would see this. So no one is going to"give you hell"' for compiaining.
3. My original point is that most folks vent and then move on
4. What the above poster is doing is being a troll...this word has been bandied about much lately. Imo this is the what's happening here...
5. My mistake was in engaging this troll to begin with...
Don't I feel dumb

you may want to find a sportster 3 or starmate replay instead. the fm modulator is much much better. they're cheaper or free at radio shack.

my understanding is that the only differences are that the 4 series units have more artist/song seek slots. they do look a bit better with the black casing in my opinion. not worth the extra money.

sportster 3 is actually a new model, just came out about a month ago and is over $100. there are a couple differences, the newer 4 series run on 5 volts instead of 12 like the old ones, so they don't run hot, and they are alot thinner than the old replays, plus the the new ones use a universal plug, so a starmate 4 will fit on a sportster 4 cradle and boom box, etc.... plus they are pretty

Default Which One

Just installed my Sportster4-Lovin' it. Also a first time user/buyer! Ease of use led me to sportster, like rotary knob on sportster as buttons are stiff when on the fly.

Wow, I've never been called one before! Ouch! How dare you! I'm not sure what a "troll" is but it sounds like an insult. All because I agree with the other "troll."

There sure are some touchy people here. Who are these guys who think they should police the forum and crack down on people? I say if a guy wants to gripe, let him gripe without slinging mud at him. Thank you.

what? "troll"? we're not in middle earth anymore siriusurfer. what kind of nerd-speak is this?

sirius surfer is a fanboy plain and simple. he feels like a big man 'policing' the forums making sure nobody speaks the truth. dude don't get mad at me for sirius making falty equip! maybe they need to pay the kids in the factory shop a few more cents.

he's like jay santos if you know who radio host phil hendrie is.

You must be new to public electronic forums

Just as SPAM does not apply only a canned meat product produced by Hormel, the word TROLL is not confined to pages written by Tolkien.. Below is a link to a pretty good discussion.
